Just try to remember--Dennis Kucinich, subcommittee chairman. It has a ring to it. :D

2. Thankfully
my congressional vote will go to someone I hope and I think will be a progressive Democrat, Nancy Boyda. I don't know how I would be able to vote for some of the clowns running this time.

You put out some sweet candy with DK, love the guy but in my experience changing a DINO or a herd of DINO's like it seems we have this year has been mostly unsuccessful. It makes me worry.

4. It's amazing though what committee chairmanships can do
Just remember all the intelligence investigations squashed by Pat Roberts.

8. Thanks, JP. This needs to be repeated often.
There is a lot of ignorance about what holding the majority means even on a board as collectively intelligent as DU.

I'm amazed at how many DUers just don't get the basics of why being in the majority is so important.

3. Hold your nose...
...Stephens is old and rumored to be ill...we REALLY can't afford to give Bush another far right court nominee that will skew the composition of the court for the next 40 years.

I'm holding my nose tightly, for some moreso than others...

25. Voting for ANWR
against the fence, against the estate tax, for stem cell research, against the flag amendment, for troop withdrawal, against the gay marriage amendment, against Alito, against Roberts.

Oh my god, the agony. :eyes:

7. Think of what the Democrats can do with a majority. Appoint committee chairs,
block legiSlation--CALL FOR UP AND DOWN VOTES...

The RRRs created the pigsty, let's see how they like it when they are forced to wallow in it.

Let's take the legislative back (at least one) on 11/7, then take the party back beginning 11/8.

10. Please
The Democratic Party uses the few true progressives in office to attract progressive voters and treats progressives like dirt the rest of the time. The supposition is that we have nowhere else to go. Sort of the same way black folks are treated. We must vote Democratic but otherwise we are unrealistic purist etc. DK et all are wasting their time virtually getting nowhere while maintaining a facade long rendered illegitimate by recent history.

Fuck that, I'll no longer be a useful idiot. Other parties, other tactics are available. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

17. Yes, that is being an unrealistic purist.
There's no way a third party can will in this election, so voting Democratic makes perfect sense.

That's a capital "D" in democratic underground BTW. It's part of the mission statement that we support Democrats.

15. I consider myself far left, and I'm not holding my nose.
I feel that any movement this time has to be a move in the right(left) direction.

It will not be far enough, but at least this time we should see the pendulum start to swing back to the left.

18. Yes. John Conyers, Dennis K. , Nancy P.
It will make a world of difference. I know there's so much on the plate but I want investigations regarding Katrina, the war, and all of the other unbelievable things they've done.

19. Good point.
One question:

When did representing labor and working people, and a focus on domestic issues, become "far left?"

21. Yes, but
the OP and other Democrats seem to support the concept of Kucinich as "far left." If his own party spins him that way, I can't expect the Republicans to do any different.

22. Far left means socialist/communist on the political spectrum. Very few are "far left"
Most people here are political centrists. It's the debate that has shifted to the far right. Say "If you're center-left, and have trouble voting for your right-wing democrat...."

24. So true
Edited on Sat Oct-28-06 02:46 PM by Zodiak Ironfist
I used to be smack-dab in the middle. Now I am considered far left. I haven't moved an inch in my beliefs.

And I am no communist or socialist. Just an American who wants a balance between competing interests.

No one is representing the American people right now. Not even the Dems (when taken collectively).

26. I should be having trouble ...
... but I'm not. I often dislike the lack of unity my congress-critter, Jim Marshall (D) GA-8, displays toward the Democratic Party, and I hate his hawking for the war in Iraq, but I'll vote for him once again, because it's better to have someone who votes with the true Dems. 60% of the time than someone who votes with the true Nazis 100% of the time.
