People who hire undocumented and therefore illegal help...
...and then turn around and are concerned with immigration, are hypocrites.
Period.

This is what is going on here in the San Diego area. Nannies, yard workers, construction workers, day labor, and more.
I cannot tell you how many times I have seen work trucks pulling into Home Depot parking lots all festooned with "W-04" and "Support The Troops" stickers, looking to take advantage of cheap illegal labor.
Our AM radio talk shows are filled with local hosts who play into the "fears" of these racist hypocrites.

And that is what they are. "Racist hypocrites" all dressed up as patriotic Americans.
It is quite a sickening display really.
They are living a lie, and shoving it in our face.

1. Some people are only self-righteous until the rent comes due.

2. Are you saying that the majority of people who are concerned about
illegal immigration are hiring illegal nannies or landscape workers or what have you?

I think that those that can afford the nannies and the yardworkers are a very small minority. And yes, they are hypocrites.

But that won't wash for the majority, the vast majority who are concerned about this issue.

3. In the 50th District here
Brian Billbray basically won on this issue. This is a middle to upper-middle class area.

I am saying that the majority here cannot stop talking about the "damn Mexicans" ruining healthcare and schools. They hold these outrageous and racial based beliefs to be true. This area is full of this type of person.
Very little attention is even paid to the actual hiring and advantage taking by many of these same people.

6. Oh I do...
...they get all "bound up" when I point out this hypocrisy.

For some, the light bulb goes on and I know I have done some good.

7. I mean like publish their names. Make a list, nail it to a telephone pole.
Send it in as an editorial to your local newspaper. (As long as you have good, stand-up-in-court-type proof.)

12. next time you stay in a motel, wash your own towels and linens, too
and clean your own room. Because I've been driving all over "the Heartland" for several weeks, and most of the motel maids I've seen have probably been undocumented workers. Or maybe not. Just because someone is Mexican and speaks little English, doesn't mean they are in this country "illegally."

5. I heard on CNN last night that illegals send home $25bil a year
Edited on Sat Oct-28-06 12:31 PM by JohnnyRingo
George Buxh's deficit spending requires the export of as many US greenbacks as possible to hedge runaway inflation. Think of the policies he supports or initiates that do exactly that.

Outsourcing
Two Wars
Dubai
Guest Workers

The downside is a weakening of the Dollar against foreign currency as dollars flood the foreign market.
Has the price of worldwide commodities like oil and gold skyrocketed, or does it just take more US dollars to buy them?

16. Don't even try to sell me on free trade.
I come from the auto industry here in NE Ohio...

And the export of our manufacturing base here has been devastating to nearly all my friends and their families.

As for Mexico being our 2nd greatest trade partner, actually they're third, and that figure includes imports and exports combined: http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/top/dst/2006/08/balance.html
If Mexico wasn't exporting so many goods here, they wouldn't even be in the top ten.

Let's at that trade deficit: http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/top/dst/2006/08/deficit.html
Once again, they're #3.... in unfair trade.
$58 Billion more dollars in goods are imported from Mexico than is exported there.
Only China and Japan are a bigger drain on our economy (and jobs) through "free trade".

Of course I don't blame Mexico for the inequity, the flow began during the 1st Buxh admin, when he signed NAFTA on 12/17/1992, and continues today, thanks to the greed of US corporations and their quest to exploit cheap labor: http://www.mackinac.org/article.aspx?ID=2582

I also find blame in the practice of hiring illegal immigrants by companies who mostly provide services and cannot export the jobs south... while the government looks the other way.
The exporting of the middle class in this country is costing us and our grandchildren a decent living wage now and in the future and it matters to me.

You may be in an employment situation where you don't have to worry about losing your job to Mexico, but your undying sympathy for a deficit trade partner by fabricating the benefits to this country is completely lost on me and anyone else here who punches a time clock, wears a name tag, or wishes they still could.

And (on edit) please don't presume to correct my grammar.

18. what on earth are you talking about -- I didn't "correct your grammar"
Edited on Sat Oct-28-06 10:33 PM by Ms. Clio
I pointed out a really offensive term. Do you call everyone who breaks the law an "illegal?" Are speeders "illegals?" Bah.

And I'm not talking about "free trade," I'm just talking about the realities of trade. Mexicans consume enormous quantities of American products, and if you lived anywhere near the border, you would have a much greater appreciation for the nuances of the relationship. And in return, giant agribusinesses have devastated native corn farming and driven millions off the land and into the city or anywhere they can find work. Mexican immigrants have nada, zilch, zippo to do with the demise of the auto industry. Why do you want to scapegoat them?

And I have punched a time clock, worn a name tag, etc. etc. So spare me, 'kay?

13. What does W-04 have to do with being racist hypocrites?
Bush is FOR allowing massive immigration from Mexico. There's no hypocrisy in someone both supporting Bush and hiring a bunch of illegals.
