Don't Forget! Time changes back to Standard Time tonight!
Or at 2am, whatever.

:hi:

Sunday marks last time we'll 'fall back' in October

October 27, 2006

"Falling back" will never be the same.

When people set their clocks back an hour Sunday morning, it will be the last time the switch to standard time happens in October.

Next year, daylight-saving time will start earlier and end later in the year.

Under a law passed last year, daylight-saving time will start the second Sunday in March and run until the first Sunday in November, making it three weeks longer.

The law -- called the Energy Policy Act of 2005 -- is intended to make daylight last longer, thus saving energy.

Officially, the switch to standard time this year comes at 2 a.m. Sunday -- meaning an extra hour of sleep.

1. I wish we would just switch 'back" ....
... and then leave it alone! I can't take the spring time change.

2. eh. Me too.
It makes zero sense, anyway.
Eventually, they'll make it longer and longer, until they've come back around to not having it at all -- but they'll be convinced they did the "right" thing . . .

sigh.

15. Actually, it does make some sense
Ever notice the change of time coincides with the baseball season?

My theory is that daylight savings time was instituted to accomodate day baseball, before ballparks installed lights for night games. One extra hour was necessary for ball players to play doubleheaders with less risk for games suspended by darkness. This way, it cut down on travel time for road teams.

4. Yes, it would be hard to 'switch back' if you hadn't switched
to begin with, I would think.

7. Oh thank you for the reminder!
I had totally forgotten. Wouldn't have been good to wake up late for church and be embarrassed. Heh heh. Why are they changing it? Now they're going to confuse me even more. Blah!

13. DST is like cutting one end off a blanket
and sewing it on the other end to make it longer.

You like the extra hour of daylight in the evening? Stay up another hour and leave the rest of us alone.
