How about just saying "Congrats on NJ"
To all the "gays are so selfish why can't they keep their mouths shut there is no homophobia on DU PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE wait until after the election DUers"

1) If you that all Americans having civil unions is a less controversial platform, you're out of your mind.

Do you really think that taking the perceived ability to legally marry a couple away from the same pastors who are foaming at the mouth over gay marriage is going to be met with praise by their followers? Do you really think that that's unspinnable? How about: Now the gays want to take ALL our rights to be married away, now we all gotta have civil unions...Who's the congress to tell my pastor he can't marry my fiance and I? While "everyone having civil unions" is a rational stance, it does not address the irrational voters who are against gay marriage. Do you really think there are Democrats who are going to vote for Bush and the Republicans because gays are pushing for marriage instead of CIVIL UNIONS? Or do you just want us to have civil unions because it offends you personally and you don't want to have to hold your nose and vote for a candidate who supports marriage instead of CUs-- oh wait... nobody in congress is pushing for gay marriage.

2) Just wait until after the election TO DO WHAT???

The NJ decision came down when it did wholly independent of Rove. What are we supposed to be "not doing" until after the election? Posting news that pertains to us and being happy about it? Or should we not pursue law suits at all until the Democrats get elected to all branches of government so that a decision doesn't fall on a bad day? This reminds me of how when someone said "gosh, I hope the ______ is safe" after 9-11, freepers would yell STOP GIVING OSAMA IDEAS!!!!!!111 Do you think we're giving Rove "ideas"? Does he not already know that we exist and are a fully exploitable enemy? Is Rove going to suddenly "get the idea" to exploit the NJ decision because someone on DU posts the decision in LBN?

3) Stop insinuating that if GLBT people who fight are the reason why we have war, poverty, and no health care.

Every time you say that "there are more important issues" that's exactly what you're saying. You're saying that we're responsible for lost elections and that if the Democrats were in power we'd have no war, better jobs, and universal health care. You act like we are the boulder in the way of such progress. Basically, you are saying that the party (and hence America) would be better off without gay people. Do you really want 4-10% of Americans out of your party?

4) Why not say that Michael J. Fox should wait until after the election?

There are definitely voters who are turned off by stem cell research. For that matter, if you're really concerned about the "big tent" why not take on Democrats who are anti-gun as often as you do democrats who are pro-gay marriage. In Texas, I promise you, gun rights are more important than anti-gay legislation.

5) Cut out the fucking cage matches.

No more Gays vs. Blacks. We don't do Latinos vs. Native Americans, the Disabled vs. Women, the Poor vs Asians, Jews vs Atheists. These are patently fucking absurd and offensive. Furthermore, a GRAND portion of you don't know anything about LGBT history or international LGBT issues. Most of you don't know the things that have happened to gay people in America. And some of you only know what the media tells you: Matthew Shepard, Gay Marriage, Queer Eye For the Straight Guy, and that lesbians in real life are different than lesbians in porn. A lot of you obviously don't realize that for gender non-conforming gays, all lesbians, and all GLBT people of color, gay rights issues are ECONOMIC issues. So CUT. IT. OUT.

6) It's people like you who keep it in the news with all the angst-ridden "gay marriage is less important" threads. See "concern troll"

Don't want people to be thinking about gay marriage before the election? Then why are you bringing up so many threads about it?

We lost habeus corpus. Bush just grabbed dictatorial power by overturning posse comitatus and you want to kvetch about NJ giving us rights? How about just saying CONGRATS and moving on?

31. No, we will not stop talking about this.
It's not over yet. We have 6 months to rally the troops and get in touch with our State Representatives to tell them that gay marriage would affirm us full equality. Our story needs to be told. And our straight allies need to call upon their Representatives as well to tell them why they support us.

This is just the beginning. We won't shy into the shadows to fulfill your meager request.
