Was just over at Kos, checking out their fillibuster news
They have a Kerry/fillibuster on the front page, plus another diary recommended at the top. They're calling the same phone numbers we are. So there's two big blog sites on the case.

Reading the diaries, most of the comments are focussed on calling Senators and such, with only a few comments saying that it is futile, that we don't have the votes etc.

I was also somewhat disappointed to find posts calling Kerry pathetic for grandstanding, or saying that he's grandstanding for 2008, that he's risking nothing on a vote that isn't going to happen anyway.

Kinda used to it re: Kerry mind you esp. over at Kos at times, but still, even if you don't give two shits about Kerry, surely such talk is counterproductive if you care about defeating Alito, and getting the fillibuster.

I think if I hear "too little, too late" one more damn time, I'm going cuckoo for cocoa puffs.

1. this is NOT about Kerry. It's about stopping Alito from the rw takeover.
I was wondering what was going on over there.

5. Better than usual, esp since he became a Kossack.
I just wish some folks could support the effort even if it's being initiated by someone they do NOT support.

8. I see it, and I recommended it. But look what someone put in his diary!
"I don't appreciate the ploy, John (0.20 / 10)

Kerry, I understand your role, to cripple the Democratic Party at every turn for your "brother" for life, fellow bonesman, distant cousin, George W. Bush.

You may have other people fooled, but not me, and a whole lot of others. There are more everyday realizing who is really running this country and what their aims truly are, and how the Repubclicans and Democrats are both on the side of the elite corporate entities against the people.

If any of the people want to know more, check out the site The Watchman Report and look at the News Headlines on the Forums as well."

Someone just told this pud to put a cork in it, and it wasn't one of the usual defenders either.

2. Kerry knew this move would hurt him more than help him in 2008 and he DID
IT ANYWAY.

The media and pundits are already coming down on him HEAVILY.

3. We have one objective and it isn't ragging on Kerry...
...it's keeping Alito off the Supreme Court.

Democrats MUST do all they can to keep Alito off the court! EVEN IF THEY FAIL - because once Alito starts handing down his dangerous and extremeist decisions - Democrats WILL BE BLAMED and they MUST HAVE A LEG TO STAND ON in saying they DID EVERYTHING THEY COULD to keep him OFF the court. Even if they failed. THEY HAVE TO TRY - EVERYTHING POSSIBLE.

4. Good strategy, LC, on checking in on KOS.
It's better to have two major progressive sites hammering away on this than one -- or none.

Kerry shines in this one, as he has often shone in the past. You are right to say what you've said here (and on many other threads on DU over a sustained period). Bravo. Bravo.

I would like my country better if Senator Kerry's action here is successful. I support him in his effort to defend the Constitution of the land against xenophobic, manipulative assholes like Judge Alito.

Bravo again for this post, LC.

Kerry says he'll filibuster Supreme Court nominees who do not support abortion rights
Friday, June 20, 2003

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said Friday that he is prepared to block any Supreme Court nominee who would not uphold the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion.

"I am prepared to filibuster, if necessary, any Supreme Court nominee who would turn back the clock on a woman's right to choose or the constitutional right to privacy, on civil rights and individual liberties and on the laws protecting workers and the environment," Kerry said in remarks via satellite at a meeting of Democratic party officials in St. Paul, Minn.

"The test is basic -- any person who thinks it's his or her job to push an extreme political agenda rather than to interpret the law should not be a Supreme Court justice."
