1. It would not have mattered if he would have apologized on the spot
They would have twisted this and they will continue to twist this.
They are going to use this right up to election day in hopes that it pisses off some voters.

I was talking to one of the workers at the local campaign office for Sherrod Brown, they actually had a little old lady call in to say that she was going to vote for Brown but since Kerry made "that comment" she was switching her vote.

3. Stories with stupid twists of logic
don't always resonate with people. There are limits. In this case it is not hard to see that Kerry brought more attention to this than needed. If someone picks a fight over a non issue why fight over it?

11. Did she then try to sell the person a bridge in New York? The purpose
of that call was to cause dissention. I do not believe for one moment a 'little old lady' would be moved to change her vote over his gaffe. She was a republican operative!

13. That was my thought as well
They did this in 04, calling the campaign offices claiming they switched their votes because of some comment abut Mary Cheney. Probably that same little old lady

2. That is why I said he shouldn't apologise.
I KNEW they were going to criticize him for doing it a day late, or whatever else they can conjure up.

Anyway, he had NOTHING for which to apologise in the first place. :eyes:

Peoria". I should do what you do. It isn't wonderful, when first thing in the morning I'm screaming outloud about these corporatewhores. It was bad enough that my home was invaded last night with pre-recorded telephone ads for the the repukes..including a fearmongering one from Tom Ridge. I kept screaming at the phone..
I have to go and center myself now!

17. I know how you feel
it's just been part of my routine for years to watch the Today Show while getting ready for work...but I just don't think I need a blood pressure spike first thing in the morning...

5. The Early Show is no better....
There must be a special lock on the pre-commute morning shows. The slant is much worse at this time of morning. . . across the board.

Their intro was ridiculous, but if you watch the report Carville says the Democrats are stronger then they were before the "gaffe", but more importantly everyone (Meredith, James Carville, Michael Schmerconish) says that his words were taken out of context by the Republicans and he was obviously attacking the President and not the troops.

7. Kerry should have left it stand
He was going to be swift- boated no matter what he did.
The freepers and freeper like media really like to latch on to little things that gets their base riled.
Even Hillary tried to score a few points off of it.
:silly:

Hillary called for new Iraq policy and said joke was "inappropriate" - I have
no problem with that.

“What Senator Kerry said was inappropriate and I believe we can't let it divert us from looking at the issues that are at stake in our country. We do need a new policy in Iraq.”

12. This is why you DON'T apologize..
... they'll still smear you no matter what you do.

Everyone sees the smears for what they are, even the nutjobs know they aren't fair. At some point, the Democratic party is going to have the tell the media to go fuck themselves, and use every bully puplit they can find to point out how absurdly and ridiculously lopsided their treatment is.

14. And if he had apologized in the beginning, they
would have continued playing the distortion as fact!

They will not acknowledge the actual statement he made yesterday because Kerry didn't apologize for his original statement criticizing Bush, but he said he was sorry to those who were upset by the RW distortion.

The wording was perfect:
