The Depressed Fundamentalist Vote Will Hurt GOP Bigtime....
... there just is no way around it.

Even Dobson, Falwell, Perkins and their ilk will not be able to turn out the Fundie vote this time like they did in the past. Without it, GOP cannot win.

1. Oh, they'll vote
I've resigned myself to that. We just have to vote more.

9. Most of them have already cast their absentee ballots anyway.
They do as they're told.

11. Yep.
In my county, the early voting results already show a higher number of Republicans casting ballots. They'll turn out, like the pre-programed robots they are. Fundies can ignore evolution, global warming, and the earth's actual age; ignoring Haggard is a cinch. Once you've dived into the irrational, there's really no coming back to reason. I'm not sure anything will make a difference to these voters.

12. Yes, they will vote, but in what numbers?
Any reduction in the fundamentalist religious vote only helps Democrats.

4. I suggest they pack their bags and move to Iran
their theocratic nirvana. "Christians" of their ilk have no desire to live in a free country. They want to be forced to live by a religious doctrine and they want everyone else to live that way too. That's why that wacky constitution pisses these sumbitches off so bad.

5. Fundies are beginning to realize they've been had by the rich corportatists.
Many of them know its all a joke on them. Empty promises. Foley, Haggard, etc. Meanwhile, their kids are growing up in a more hostile, corrupt world thanks to the republicans.

6. some of those "fundies" vote in ways you would like
...on poverty, clean air, social justice, and truthfulness. They are going to switch their votes for a good candidate.

8. Don't Forget, There are Millions of Non-Fundi Christians voting...
... and just because the MSM chooses not to 'focus' on them does not mean they are politically inactive. They just believe govt should provide freedom to worship as they choose, not endorse an official version of religion with beliefs they do embrace.

Just to set the record straight ....

13. Unfortunately, here at DU all Christians tend to be tarred with the same brush.
There is often such a contempt and antagonism here towards all Christians that we forget that there are millions of them who do vote for Democrats and support the party. There is no point in throwing out the baby with the bathwater, but many feel better in doing it.

10. The only way this may be true...
...I think it may have impacted the focus of these churches on voter mobilization. They've had to use at least some resources on maintaining unity in the face of this. The area where this would impact most would be Colorado Springs. I'm not sure it has a national effect, except in a very derivative sense, by reinforcing a sense of the "hypocritical social conservative."

It sure takes the "oomph" out of Bush talking about "values" and pundits opining about "values voters." It changed the narrative in a helpful way.
