Bush: "My attitude is, we're going to respond before we're attacked"

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/11/20061106-4.html

<snip>

THE PRESIDENT: And the reason I'm bringing this up to you is that there is a different mind-set in Washington, D.C. than what I believe. See, I believe our professionals have all the tools necessary to protect you; Democrats don't. There's an attitude up there that says, well, we'll respond after we're attacked. My attitude is, we're going to respond before we're attacked. (Applause.)

I felt it was important, if al Qaeda or an al Qaeda affiliate was making a phone call in the United States, that we knew why. In this different kind of war, we must understand what the enemy is thinking if our job is to prevent an attack. When that bill came up in front of the United States House of Representatives, the vast majority of Democrats voted against it.

I felt it was important that when we picked somebody up off the battlefield that we had an opportunity to question that person. See, we picked up Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who our intelligence services think was the mastermind of September the 11th. Here's my way of thinking: If he knew about one attack, he might know about another attack. (Applause.) When this bill came up in front of the House and the Senate, the overwhelming majority of Democrats voted no. If the people of this country expect their government to do its most important job, you better elect people who will give our professionals the tools necessary to protect you, and those people are Republicans. (Applause.)

We're involved in a global struggle, and we will face the enemy where we find them, no matter what the theater of war is. The most important theater, however, is Iraq. See, one of the lessons of September the 11th is that when we see a threat we have got to take that threat seriously. I saw a threat in Saddam Hussein; members of the United States Congress in both political parties saw the same threat; the United Nations saw the threat. My decision to get rid of Saddam Hussein was the right decision and the world is better off for it. (Applause.)

AUDIENCE: USA, USA, USA --

he says this knowing that the audience doesn't know what else was involved in the vote or why they voted in the manner that they did.

8. This is a ridiculous argument...
It's like breaking into your neighbor's house and shooting him because he's shaken his fist at you over the back fence.

Just plain stupid.

We're back to Saddam was a threat again? People in Congress saw Saddam as a threat because the intel was tweaked to make it look that way. The dude was a self-absorbed tyrant who was drunk with his own power. Attacking the U.S. wouldn't have done a damned thing for him and he knew it.

Bush is SUCH a lying fuckhead.

they commit a crime! Yeah! I mean, just look around, I bet you can spot 10 people who look really, really guilty. I'm sure they're all up to something.

20. Bin Ladins were old buddies, investors in his first business.
Why wouldn't he want to repay that debt......especially when it doesn't involve his own wallet?

Recruiting for al qaeda seems the least he could do.

17. But, wasn't it you and your "professionals' (Mr. Bush) who were in charge
when indeed we DID get hit ?!!!
I just can't get over this whole bull shit rhetoric (attributable to the GOP and it's supporters) that Bush is somehow the brave protector of the US when in fact 9/11 happened on HIS watch.
It's akin to hiring a babysitter and while you are gone your family is murdered but you stick by that babysitter because she/he is strong on violence!
SHEEESH!
Get a fucking brain people !!!!

18. kansas
I saw him on C-Span last night in Kansas, stumping for Jim Ryun,

It looked like a religious brainwashing grape kool-aid event
the people were nodding their heads up and down, phony laughing,
and everytime he asked them.....about the democrats, they all said something like
"what is your plan" it was nauseating to watch.

23. Funny, my parents (who instilled REAL family values in me)
always taught us that we were NEVER NEVER NEVER to hit first. No matter how much we were provoked verbally, we were NOT to hit first.

Once we took a blow, though it was ok to hit in defense.

It took some doing, a few spankings and loss of privileges, but by the age of 8 or so I FINALLY got it.

Why doesn't Bush get it? I guess Babs never taught him that one. Pity.
