Poll question: How long will it be before Haggard is re-instated as Pastor of his church?
I was going to do this poll yesterday, and my guess would have been one month.

Now that Haggard has admitted everything and asked for forgiveness, I've changed my mind.

He has missed one Sunday as Pastor. I say he will miss one more, and then be back - not just as a member of the congregation but as the Minister.

I base this on the fact that Jimmy Swaggart STILL has followers. None are so blind as those who won't see.

2. It depends on who wins tomorrow, and then, if the Repubs win...
what sort of Jimmy Swaggart moment he can manage to come up with.

3. Wednesday
if the repubs win the elections. It will be a sign from God.

(a sign that God hates the US).

4. Now that the good evangelicals know he has homosexual desires?
Never. He could have been caught stealing money, making racist statements or even in an affair with a woman, and they'd welcome him back. But living "a homosexual lifestyle," as the fundies like to call it, they'll have nothing more to do with him.

6. BINGO!
They'll never, ever forgive someone for being gay. Never. Drugs? Straight sex? No problem. Gay? He's going straight to hell.

7. Are you kidding?
They'll all have a grand time "forgiving" him and praying for him and laying hands on him, but they won't let him near that altar again.

9. Never
At best the association might get him a job as an associate pastor at a small church in another part of the country or more likely, he'll have to resort to being a 2am televangelist. Anyone who thinks Pastor Ted will be back doesn't understand the evangelical community and their preachers.

A few examples - traveling comedy preacher Mike Warnke. Back in the early 90's it came out that some of his "shtick" was made up - poetic license so to speak. Within 24 hrs all his recordings were off the shelves of christian stores and he was never heard from again.

Tammy Faye and Jim Baker - She's remarried but even now the best she can do is infomercials. The evengelical community told her to kiss off forever. Jim is still trying to get his shit together I do believe.

Jimmy Swaggart - after a 7 yr sabbatical he managed to buy time on TV in the middle of the night on bunch of small local christian networks who desperately need the money. He is no longer a licensed minister and even though he's been back on the air for about 5 years his audience is estimated at under 3000 nationwide.

In short, I don't think Pastor Ted will ever re-emerge in any capasity even close to what he was.

10. I think Haggard is FINISHED as a minister
<<I base this on the fact that Jimmy Swaggart STILL has followers>>

Jimmy Swaggart admitted to illicit sex with a WOMAN, not a man. That's a huge difference for gay-hating fundies. His congregation may be mourning his leaving, but that doesn't mean they'll ever forgive him and welcome him back. Poor little Teddy Boy... :nopity:
