Chuck Todd Is A Moron
He compared Deval Patrick's challenge to become governor of Massachusetts to Harold Ford's struggle to become senator from Tennessee. He went on to say Massachusetts is as racist as Tennessee.. I guess he forgot Massachusetts sent an African American, Edward Brooke, to the Senate some thirty years ago.

Yes, I'm aware there's racism everywhere and there was violent opposition to busing in Boston but to compare the racial climate in Massachusetts to Tennessee is just ignorant...

1. I agree that is stupid
Ed Brooke was a true liberal Republican--had a better voting record than many dems and served for many terms and was an AA and Patrick has been running 20-pts ahead in the polls.

3. He needs to learn some Massachusetts history
One of the victims of the Boston Massacre was an escaped slave who came to Boston to get away from the slavemasters: Crispus Attucks.

Theodore Parker (grandson of John Parker, Militia captain at Lexington when the Revolution started) personally hid many escaped slaves, and financed part of John Brown's rebellion at Harper's Ferry. He held many anti-slavery meetings, but kept a pistol in his pocket in case slave catchers came to try to catch escaped slaves in the crowd.

Frederick Douglass, an escaped slave, was welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd of Boston liberals who can to Faneuil Hall to hear Douglass give a speech.

Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau gave many speeches against slavery and in support of John Brown.

The Massachusetts 54th was the first all-black regiment in the Army, and distinguished themselves by their heroism in the Civil War. One of them was the first black recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor.

There are ignorant people everywhere, but Massachusetts has a record to be proud of.

4. Actually he's not that far off
Yes, there are some historical references that show tolerance but that's not the true picture today. Boston in particular has a lot of issues concerning discrimination and prejudice. I know many African Americans who tell me this.

8. You Miss The Point.
I was doing a comparison...

There's racism everywhere but to say it's not more acute in some areas is to be willfully blind...

9. The media doesn't talk about this but...
Yes, I'm aware there's racism everywhere and there was violent opposition to busing in Boston but to compare the racial climate in Massachusetts to Tennessee is just ignorant...

This isn't true.
There are legitimate issues regarding race relations in Boston that makes it close to Tn. or some other southern state.

11. Virginia had a black govenor
But there are still racial problems there also. Bush had 2 blacks in his cabinet and has hired other blacks also.

That shouldn't be your standard.

12. I Said There's Racism Everywhere...
It's just more acute in some areas than others...

The north had few slaves to begin with and never had the legacy of Jim Crow...

14. You still don't understand but that's ok
There are issues in Boston that are as bad as TN. Chuck Todd is not a moran in his comment. That was the point he was trying to make.

A google search would provide more information.
