About New Jersey...
Given that Menendez will serve another term, can we maybe agree that throwing our fellow Dems, DUers, and citizens under the bus is not the right way to go about campaigning? Can we agree that it's never a good time to "re examine" "restate" or flat out ignore the very real and important issues of GLBT humans, female humans, black humans, the sick, the old, the handicapped? I think we can. I think this is a start. I think we need to learn from it and never make that sort of mistake, never turn our backs on our OWN again. I, for one, wouldn't want to be part of a party that pretends that it is something that it's not. That would be...well that would be Republican.

Way to go, People Of New Jersey...My glass is raised to you today.

1. Unfortunately,
people are always willing to sacrifice others for their own gain. Even Democrats. We see that in every campaign. It is one of the big obstacles that every branch of the civil rights movement faces whenever we try to work through the political process.

9. It blows me away every time I see it.
I will never forget, in 2004, when we were told here (at DU) that we were mere checkerplayers and asked to stand back while others played chess.

**I never understood the rules for chess. They don't really make sense.

I felt very good after voting. And I felt even better as the evening went on and those glorious numbers started showing up on my television screen.

I wish your voice could be heard loud and clear but unfortunately, I think the bashing and dirty politics are here to stay.

14. It was the first return I saw when we turned on MSNBC and I was
cautiously optimistic that it would hold. I am cautiously optimistic that maybe people will rethink this. :toast:

Telling people to "wait" for perceived political expediency doesn't work in the end. The Dems won this time because they stood against the war and against the neocon Christofacist tide. Cowering and playing nice while throwing your base under a bus is suicide.

13. I'd gladly welcome some allies too
even if they are only now joining us.

But I'm not really expecting many new people to join us. I think we already know who's really on our side and who's just spouting. :(

If they keep stepping on the rights of gay people, women, the elderly etc... they will eventually pay the price in votes and support. "Waiting our turn" will become a thing of the past for anyone. When I look around on election day I see who it is who is willing to canvass the neighborhoods, stand at the polls, make the phone calls. The day is coming, I'm pushing for it to come sooner. :hug:

I'm a cynic. I'd love to be optimistic. But I firmly believe that in the long run the bullies win. :(
