I don't want Hoyer OR Murtha for Majority Leader post
If we end up with Steny Hoyer as Majority Leader, I bet it won't take long before he becomes another Tom DeLay (or Dan Rostenkowski if you look at past Democratic corruption), only because he will have access to K-Street directly, which he didn't have before. However, Murtha is not entirely clean himself, albeit not as bad as Hoyer. Murtha was actually listed on a list of corrupt Congressmen (many of whom are thankfully unemployed after last night.)

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2006/09/20/20-most-corrupt-members-o_n_29863.html

Some have objected to Murtha because he is pro-life and conservative on some social issues, but Reid is pro-life and he has still been able to manage our caucus in the Senate, and the House doesn't deal with judicial nominees.

Personally, I would consider Rahm to be an okay candidate, but I want to know if he has any potential skeletons in his closet. Also, are there any other possible candidates? I want someone who is considered moderate in perception to balance any future demonization of Pelosi. I also want the Majority to be the attack dog and the person who gets the legislation through.

1. You want squeaky clean? How 'bout Dennis Kucinich?
No skeletons that I know of. And he's in a very safe district (unlike former Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, or even Harry Reid).

Or is he too progressive for the Dems?

2. I'm looking for someone who can be perceived as moderate

Of course, I hope that person also has a decent voting record and isn't a corporate sellout. Although if it came down to it I would prefer Kucinich.

14. me too
He is already the natural leader. He led the effort to vote against the war in Iraq, against the patriot act, voted with only 22 Dems against the Iran Freedom Support Act. He is always giving outstanding passionate floor speeches, fighting for truth and justice whether it is popular or not.

But then, I'm hoping he will be running for president 2008 so he might be kinda busy...

11. I really, really don't like Rahm either
In an interview yesterday he said that one of their first priorities will be to "realign the party". Considering some of the things that Rahm has said in the past about the base, I can't help but think that he meant to run the party further right, via a purge of the base (or visa versa, purge the base so that they can run the party further to the right). I hope that I am wrong, I hope that I am just reading too much into his words.

12. Is Reid Pro Life?
I thought he supported Roe V Wade. Isn't it just that he is against some of the more extreme cases, such as non parental notification and partial birth abortion. I know he voted against Alito.

13. Kucinich, like Dean, was amongst the very FIRST to stand up
to the rotten and corrupt republican war machine and tell it like it is. He's an extremely brave man, willing to tell the truth when everyone else is running away with their tails tucked between their legs.

Kucinich would be just fine with me.
