Poll question: Impeachment Poll
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 10:32 AM by WakingLife
You knew it was coming. Or I should probably say they as there will be a few.

Just curious what the initial feelings are.

1. Number 2 with a caveat...
Congress must aggressively pursue legislation meaningful to the American public while also conduction investigations

2. Congress needs to let America know they are there for the PEOPLE
If bu$h doesn't clean house and soon as it may appear he is starting to do. Then maybe impeachment is in order. I so want him to be impeached but fear that if a newly elected Democratic congress goes right in and start prosecuting, 2 years from now will be a blood bath of Democrats.
We need some real reform in this country to address the corruption and fix what has been damaged by the total republican disregard for the American people.

3. Impeachment without conviction is a futile and hollow gesture.
Enough of the taxpayer's money has been spent on losing propositions.

17. If you go into a process that costs millions (which most certainly
can be put to better use, dammit), and the result is pointless, because believe me, without a conviction the whole process is pointless.

And if your point is doing the right thing to show this bunch of clowns that they aren't going to get their way anymore, what do you think Tuesday night said?

We have a lot of messes to clean up. Impeachment (that leads nowhere) is a long, drawn out process. And yes, we control the house and Senate, but not by a big enough margin to accomplish anything.

Hell, I thought we were going into this with the intent of being the party of fiscal responsibility and to clean up all the crap that these guys have gotten us into the past six years. You people want to spend MILLIONS WE CAN'T AFFORD on a process that we can't win.

...of responsibility - period. That means serving justice, wherever it leads us.

and then we will know who to remove from congress 2008

4. I voted #1- Impeach ASAP
We need to undo everything bad that Bush has done-including Bush himself. We need to do so in the most expedient manner to show not only America, but the rest of the world that we are serious about fixing things, and that we care not only about our place in the world, but about the rest of the world as well.

7. Not sure I agree but in any case
I figured that this poll will be put up more than once and it would be best to just start with a simple one and let people improve its wording for future polls.

8. Open and transparent investigations MUST precede impeachment.
The American people have to know the reasons for Congressional action. (Not that many won't applaud a */Cheney impeachment, even without hearings.) But the hearings have to come first for impeachment to be guaranteed the legitimacy it so richly deserves.

11. My "other" vote
Just as the Clinton impeachment was viewed by a few Republicans as valid, but by the majority of the American people as negative politics, any effort to start impeachment proceedings on Bush would, in my humble opinion, be perceived as negative politics and probably hurt the Democrats badly for 2008.

The subpoena power, oversight hearings in Congressional and Senate committees, chaired by Democrats, will bring out the bad stuff and as it trickles out, there will either be such a level of pure outrage from the American people that Bush and Cheney are virtually "run out of town on a rail" and you have the Nixon/Agnew resignation activity instead of an impeachment trial, OR there will just be enough problems identified to keep the Republican insanity under control for the next two years with a positive platform for Democrats to win the White House in 2008.

I would love to see the oversight stuff start with Cheney and challenge him about being required to respond to a congressional subpoena. Hearings on Gates are going to be interesting also.

If the Democrats are as sharp and smart as I think WE are, we won't repeat Republican mistakes.

12. Investigate and root out corruption.....no matter who is corrupt and
unduly influenced by Corporate lobbyists ----get 'em out. I would much prefer Mr. Bush resign when the cloud of taint gets thick enough. We have too much to do to get bogged down in impeachment. The people want change and positive results for them. Make Bush the marginalized figure he needs to be. Drain the NeoCon swamp and restore American dignity ---- for ALL.

Tackle catastrophic climate change! Do it NOW! Show ALL the people that we can ALL benefit by cleaning out the corruption. Broaden the base and move very positively to '08! That's the way to do it, imho.

16. It's nice to be in the majority around here for a change
Let the investigations drive the impeachement - we know that there are things to find - look at how much wrongdoing has popped out while they weren't being seriously investigated! Let's take a good hard look at them and when the evidence is discovered, nail them to the wall with it.

19. At the very least, investigations will keep bush from committing NEW crimes....

He'll be too busy trying to avoid being prosecuted for all his old crimes to commit new ones.

And that can only be good for our country.

24. I am somewhat doubting the wording of the poll now.
I see a lot of people hollering for impeachment elsewhere but not many votes here.

I meant option 2 to mean, don't really focus on impeachment but if hearings cause public uproar or something big enough is turned up then go there.

Of course, I don't think there is anyway to actually get an impeachment in time. But the investigations will sure be fun!

Is there any way we can get McCain caught up in them too?

36. We need a REAL security whistleblower protection act RIGHT AWAY!
So that we can have as many people as possible that know stuff to come forward in the coming investigations. This has been controlled in every of the other previous "whistleblower protection" bills, that it's high time that this get put in place! Sibel Edmonds, Russell Tice, and all of the rest of us people here would be MOST grateful for this to happen!
