I'm confused... Just what makes a person "ungodly"?
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 05:54 PM by theHandpuppet
So Jerry Falwell considers Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi (and we must assume, by extension, all Democrats) "ungodly"?

Just what makes a person ungodly, anyway? Lying, warmongering, abandoning the poor and needy, torture, greed, drinkin' and druggin', vindictiveness, conceit, lack of empathy, selfishness, hypocrisy, et al?

Oops -- just musing about BushCo here.

I just don't understand what these fundie Bush fans consider "godly". Anyone have a clue?

married to the same man for a gazillion years? Maybe it's wanting to take care of those less fortunate, or acceptance for those who are different.

27. Then his definition of an athiest
and my definition of one are totally different, I believe that the idea of a god is useless, other than as a means to control others.

To each their own, but I was never afraid of the dark either. If a god did exist, then he has more than a little explaining to do.

(from merriam-webster) http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ungodly

Main Entry: un·god·ly
Pronunciation: -lE
Function: adjective
1 a : denying or disobeying God : IMPIOUS, IRRELIGIOUS b : contrary to moral law : SINFUL, WICKED

Folks like Jerry Foulwill! Jerry is a false Prophet and a hypocritical tax cheat.

Falwell Helps Car Dealers Escape Merchandise Tax

Virginia car dealers trying to escape a tax on inventory have found a new friend willing to help them for a price: the Rev. Jerry Falwell.

Amherst County, Va., has a law requiring business owners to pay a tax on all inventory held on site on Jan. 1. For car dealers, who keep large numbers of expensive vehicles, the tax can easily amount to tens of thousands of dollars.

Eager to duck the fees, some dealers arranged to temporarily rent space in an empty parking lot at FaI well's Liberty University in Lynchburg. The school is inside the city limits, making it beyond the reach of Amherst County tax agents.

Ronald Godwin, president of Jerry Falwell Ministries, refused to tell the Lynchburg News & Advance how much the dealers paid Falwell but added, "There will be some remuneration to Liberty University. We have a lot of empty parking lots, and these guys wanted to use them." More...

21. It depends on who you ask.

Different faiths have different definitions of "godly".

I've always thought that religion and militant veganism were very similar. Both involve a group of people who consciously *choose* to forego participating in certain actions because those actions conflict with their "morality". That's perfectly fine with me--free country and all. The conflict with me occurs when people like that decide "If something is wrong for ME, then it's wrong for EVERYONE." and start trying to legislate their morality so that nobody else is allowed to partake of what they choose to deny themselves.

I have no problem with religious people. I have no problem with Vegans. I have LOTS of problems with people trying to legally take away my right to practice a different morality than they do.

Bottom line: if you think something is morally repugnant, DON'T DO IT. Sit back and let yourself feel so much better than everyone else who isn't NEARLY as "moral" as you are. But stop trying to use the government to change MY lifestyle and take away MY choices.

/end semi-rant
