imagine the headlines if when filibuster alito!!!
oh sure, banana republicans will be crying "obstructionists", but mostly, they will be ... crying.

with the "sure thing" run up, a filibuster should be declared a MAJOR victory for the democratic party.

not that the msm will do the right thing, but certainly the public will have a hard time not seeing this as an impressive show of political power. furthermore, they will get the message that WOW, ALITO MUST REALLY BE HORRIBLE for the democrats to filibuster him.

shrub is under 40%, there's blood in the water. democrats need do what sharks do when that happens.

7. stupidest poll ever. americans WILL support a filibuster
the don't support a filibuster for several reasons, mostly because people don't know what a filibuster is, don't know the issues, haven't heard enough bad things about alito, etc.

but actually DOING a filibuster changes everything. it shows strength, it shows that alito has something bad about him that many people feel is WORTH filibustering, and it gives more time for bad stuff to come out about alito.

having a poll about a parliamentary tactic is really stupid, and can't be expected to gain meaningful information beyond that parliamentary procedure is beyond the interest of the vast majority of americans.

10. you have a poll for that?
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 10:24 AM by jsamuel
all I could find was this one:

CBS: 90% of Dems, 69% of Inds and 37% of Reps Oppose/Unsure of Alito

CBS News/New York Times Poll. Jan. 20-25, 2006. N=1,229 adults nationwide. MoE ± 3 (for all adults).

"As you may know, George W. Bush has nominated federal Judge Samuel A. Alito to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. What do you think right now? Should the Senate vote to confirm Samuel Alito as a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, or vote against Alito, or can't you say?"

Vote all adults (and by party)

Confirm 33% (Republicans 63%; Democrats 10%; Independents 31%)

Vote Against 18% (Republicans 2%; Democrats37%; Independents 13%)

Can't Say 46% (Republicans 33%; Democrats49%; Independents 52%)

Unsure 3% (Republicans 2%; Democrats 4%; Independents 4%)

My footnote: Totals from above
Opposed/unsure
37% Republican
90% Democrats
69% Independents

8. the fillibuster will be
considered successful if Alito doesn't get to the bench. I shudder to think what will happen if the fillibuster materializes but Alito somehow gets on the bench anyway.

9. we've already crossed the point of no return
even if no filibuster materializes, the attempt is already out there.

if we fail in this filibuster attempt, the banana republicans and the msm will never let us forget it. it will prove we can't stop ANYTHING they do.
