Even IF we lose this battle today, WE STILL WON...
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 12:33 PM by samhsarah
And let me be totally clear about this, I DO NOT think we will lose this battle.

But let's say, for argument's sake, that there are not enough votes to sustain this fillibuster, WE STILL WON and here is why.

We came together, all of us, establishment dems, progressives, DUers, Kossacks, etc., etc. Things looked pretty bad just a week ago and we spent some time crying, bitching, moaning, threatening, then we got over it. We put our emotions to the side and got to work.

Since then, we got some Senators to come out and lead the fillibuster. Against all odds.

We got true to the bone DINO's to change their minds about their cloture vote. Against all odds.

Those middle of the road, whichever way the wind blows Dems are LISTENING TO US. Against all odds.

In these past few weeks, and especially this weekend we have gotten a very important message out to our Dems here's that message: NO MORE.

You will acknowledge us. You will hear our voice. Whether you like it or not. This is a post-internets world and your old way of doing business is simply not going to work anymore.

But still the M$M toils away as the mouthpiece for fascism. Trying to discourage us at every turn. First telling us there would be NO fillibuster. Then came the two Senators from Massachusetts. Now they are telling us (without any facts to back up their claims) that there aren't enough votes to sustain the fillibuster. And we gave a message to the M$M too. That message is: SCREW YOU.

We aren't listening to your CRAP anymore. You can bloviate away, Tim Russert, nobody's listening. We're too busy calling and faxing our Senators.

So what does all this mean if Alito still gets confirmed?

It means we have taken the first step in taking our party and eventually our country back. We stopped letting the politicians and the media dictate the terms. We stood our ground and showed that this left-wing liberal moonbat Michael Moore wing of the party IS the party.

And no matter what happens today, we can never turn back. The battle has begun and we will prevail. It may not happen overnight, and it's gonna take a hell of a lot more than what has happened in the last few weeks, but it's a start. Now we know how much we all matter. We can never let some talking bobble head or some Democratic Party advisor marginalize us again. WE are the party. WE want our party and our country back. And we won't give up until that's what WE get.

So with all due respect, please step aside, Mr. Elmendorf.(http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/01/27/AR2006012701505_pf.html) We have tried things YOUR way for long enough and YOUR way simply doesn't work. Let us show you how it's done. WE are what Democracy looks like.

So take a moment, everyone, pat yourselves on the back. And then get back to work. We have a Constitution to save. :patriot:

1. If The Filibuster Fails, It Will Come at a Heavy Cost
but otherwise, I agree with you. Hopefully, the Alito vote is the wake-up call for the Senate.

4. Just like a fine violin
We are being played by the media and several of our elected representatives. Hitting all the high notes too.

2. If it makes you feel better,
but if we do not actually stop the nomination, I don't know how many more such victories the Democratic Party can stand.

You know, heart counts for a lot, but muscle counts for a lot, too. And the Repukes fight just as strongly for their rotten ideas as we do for ours. We need to concentrate on winning elections. We need to convince the American people to get off their uninvolved butts and work and vote for Dems. Oh, yeah, we need to make sure the elections are honest, too.

Everything else that distracts from, or jeopardizes, winning in 2006, in a mistake.

6. IF the fillibuster fails, and we just throw up our arms and say....
"That's it, its all over", and maybe that's not what you're implying here, but IF that's the attitude we have, wouldn't that be the ULTIMATE distraction from winning in 2006? The Repukes have ALWAYS been fighting just as strongly for their rotten ideas. But we have shown we can fight just as strongly for what's right. And we must. And I didn't just write that to make myself feel better. Everyone who has worked their collective asses off should feel better. They got off their butts and worked. And that kind of passion, when someone has the conviction to fight for the truth, is catchy. It will spread. There are enough people out there who believe in American ideals. When they see us taking the charge, they will follow.

do you realize that this was a judicial nominee that had almost no mention on Roe v Wade as the main reason. It's been about Bush and his unitary presidency and all the crap they're hoping to get away with-I'm impressed

8. Let's pat Mr. Kerry on the back as well, his announcement turned the tide.
It's cathartic to know someone is actually listening - regardless.

9. Absolutely.
President Kerry really came through, for us. But there have been MANY threads (and I agree with all of them) pointing that out. He couldn't have done it without us, though, and he has been saying that all along.

10. Hear, hear
For how many years now have we heard that the right is organized? Supposedly, they're so united they must be dealt with. They can mobilize x-million voters/callers/letter writers. Now, we've proved that we can be just as organized and united and we must be dealt with.

The difference is there are so many more of us than there are of them. This is just the first step. Once we're all speaking with the same voice on important issues, we'll be unstoppable.

:applause:

11. Elmendorf - This ain't gunna happen!
"The bloggers and online donors represent an important resource for the party, but they are not representative of the majority you need to win elections," said Steve Elmendorf, a Democratic lobbyist who advised Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign. "The trick will be to harness their energy and their money without looking like you are a captive of the activist left."

You won't get a dime of my money or a minute of my support.

They raised over $75 million in 2004 from the web. That can also dry up real fast. They should know that.

15. I think you are right.
If we lose this, we have finally gotten people from all different sides to start understanding that Bush and his Nazi-Republican party is not the same Republican party of 20 years ago. So we can't give up and think that we have lost. There is to much going to happen in the next 11 months.

22. I have bothered very hard
through the 2000 election, through the 2004 election, through now.

What exactly can I do now? I don't feel represented. I will do things in accordance to how I feel, like change my registration to Independent, but that does not make me feel any less f@#cked.

23. I also don't see the point
of being like Pangloss in "Candide" who is all, like, "this is the best of all possible worlds" as horrible things happen to him. I'm not going to stop participating in politics or activism, but I don't see the point in saying things like "actually, we won today!" That is offputting and offensive to me.
