So since the Senate is 51-49...

Does that mean that IF for some reason a Dem gets in enough trouble to where he or she is forced from office at any time over the next couple years AND they are from a state w/ a repuke Gov, we are back to 50-50 w/ Cheney breaking the tie? Is it correct that the state's governor gets to pick the new Senator?
I ask this only because if this is true, the Dem Senators from these repuke run states better not so much as **jaywalk** during their term...I'm having images of the repukes targeting these Senators in hopes of getting them out of office.
Please correct me if I am wrong..it will make me feel alot better about the 51-49. Would there be a special election (ugh...Diebold) or a gov pick?

When the newly selected, arrogant bush insulted Vermont's Republican Senator, Jim Jeffords, Jeffords became an independent throwing Senate control to the Dems. I think the dems are a little bit smarter than bush and won't make the same mistake.
