Was it just two years ago that the newly re-anointed George W. Bush was crowing about the political capital he was going to cram down our throats for the next four years? What a difference two years and 1,723 wasted American lives makes. Now we learn that instead of political capital, he will finish out his term on a weekly allowance from his aging father. He’s been busted for taking the family nation on a drunken spree and crashing it into a 7-11. To called him a disgraced president is an unwarranted kindness. He is plain and simply a national disgrace.
For the next two years we will suffer the embarrassment of flying this bad joke around the world for all the world to see as the best we could do. Can this nation survive two years adrift with a deflated effigy at the helm? Thanks to the quaint and threatened notion of democracy, the vaunted Bush White House has now resembles a crime scene. Historians probably have a nicer term for “screwed the pooch” but that is certainly what the Bush legacy will be.
With all the debate about impeachment, resignation or political castration, there should be no doubt that we cannot just wait for the clock to run out on the hit and run presidency of George W. Bush. A dysfunctional world and the next Katrina will not wait for us to get our act together.
