What is the current count?
I see little bits and pieces here and there. Does anyone have a summary of:

* Who has committed to voting for confirmation
* Who has committed to voting against confirmation
* Who has expressed support for a filibuster
* Who has expressed opposition for a filibuster (will vote yes for cloture)

2. And what are those numbers?
Some Dems have vowed to support Alito. Many Democrats have already spoken out in support of cloture. Please, details!

4. looks like the confirmation numbers
the known votes against cloture are much lower, something like 17, but there are also one or two abstentions.

5. Here's what I have on confirmation:
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 03:21 PM by LizW
As of 3:20 p.m. EST:

Yes on confirmation: 53 R, 4 D (Johnson, Byrd, Nelson, Conrad)
No on confirmation: 1 R (Chaffee), 34 D, 1 I
Not voting: 1 R (hospitalized)

Unknown on confirmation:

Cantwell
Dorgan
Landrieux
Rockefeller
Bayh
Snowe

I don't know what the numbers are on filibuster. I think around 20 voting no on cloture or abstaining (and others have not committed). But I guess we can assume the 4 Dems who are going to vote for monarchy are also going to vote for cloture.

6. Thanks, Liz!
You can't tell the players without a program, and the field is pretty full right now, I can't tell who's coming on the field and who's going off :hi:
