Unfortunately, what we can expect to see (in fact, it's already begun), is a boatload of repubs switching parties (to Dem) to escape the negative image the repubs have created for themselves. I expect we will see a lot more Liebermans and Feinsteins comprising the future Dem party as a result of this conservative shift to the Dem party. Here in San Jose, which has a tradition of Democratic leadership, the newly elected mayor, Chuck Reed, calls himself a "life-long Democrat" yet his major endorsements came from the CA Republican party and he is openly opposed to equal rights for gays and lesbians.
From here on out, it will be incumbent upon voters to really *know* the candidates and their positions in order to vote responsibly--no more voting straight Dem tickets in the future, because there will be an increasing percentage of those "Dem" candidates-- like Reed, Feinstein and Lieberman (we can also add Harold Ford, Jr. to that list)-- who are out to screw us.
