20. Kerry and Kennedy called for it at the Democratic caucus
on Wednesday in the Senate in Washington DC - Kerry then flew to Switzerland for the World Economic Conference, then flew back to speak on the Senate floor on Friday. In all Kerry gave 3 excellent ver different speeches, each with logical coherent arguments for why Alito was the wrong choice. He and Kennedy also as you know communicated with the liberal blogs, getting people in every state to call their representatives. In addition to that, he and Kennedy tried to lobby their fellow Senators.

There are only 100 Senators - many of them either absolutely unlikely to vote no on cloture; others already committed. I doubt there were ever more than about 20 Senators in play. Even if he dropped his committment at Davos, I doubt there was more he could do. His speeches were well written and delivered with his usual elegance. (Obviously he and his staff worked very hard.) Kerry's (and Kennedy's) speeches alone should have moved more of the Senators. Rather than blaming Kerry, who did everything possible, blame the Democrats and moderate Republicans who were afraid to fight the Bush administration.

12. That revolting piece of crap Hatch is my senator - pity me.
I've absolutely HATED the SOB ever since I called his office about Social Security and the problems disabled folks have waiting for their benefits to start. I asked his staffer, "what are you going to do next, execute people (meaning the disabled, and me specifically)?" She said she'd press the button. :puke:

Hatch is a revolting piece of garbage who doesn't belong in office. I can't stand to even look at the revolting monster - he reminds me too much of Bush.

15. Thanks! Sometimes I think I'm the only sane person in Utah - glad I'm not
Bennett is almost as bad as Hatch. Neither one of the creeps even bothers to respond to me anymore. I don't have much money, but donating to the opposition would just plain FEEL GOOD. It's the principle of the thing, you know?
