To every democratic senator who votes to confirm Alito.
I will use every tool available to me to drive you from office. I will take out ads, raise money for your opponent and generally make your pathetic, useless life, even more pathetic.

I will use the considerable resources I have available to me through my work connection and my liberal friends here on DU. I will use the considerable resources I have at my disposal to drive you from office in disgrace.

Hear my voice. Listen to me. You have taken money from me and from other democrats in your quest to win election and you are now turning your backs on us.

If you vote to confirm Alito, it will be our turn.

This is my vow. This is my promise. I will ensure your defeat.

>I will use the considerable resources I have at my disposal to drive you from office in disgrace.<

I'm with you. If they don't support us, they need to find another job. NOW.

I just called Maria Cantwell's office and said basically the same thing -- that I would work day and night to see that she is out of office if she does not vote "no" on cloture and support the filibuster.

7. Me, too...enough is enough
Conciliation is the EXACT SAME THING as collaboration. I don't have very much influence (hey, I'm in Mississippi!) and not a great deal of money, but I'll do what I can. Enough with the Quislings and appeasers in the Democratic Party. Robt. Byrd just makes me sick, and I hope he's good and ashamed of himself.

made by this radical right-wing court and put the responsibility for the people harmed by their decisions squarely at the feet of those who voted to confirm him and those who refused to filibuster. The erosion of our rights and liberties will be THEIR legacy.

I still want DEMS to vote against Alito, so if there are those that would defeat him that way, that would still be good, but I want to blast those that denied us the filibuster because it seems to be a sign of not taking this situation seriously.

If the DEMS are simply going to vote against Alito in concert and have moderate Republicans swinging with them, but were not convinced the filibuster itself was the way to go... I could live with that --- as long as they smack down Alito.

But I don't think they will find their balls unless we kick them in the groin and remind them where they are.

I do not ask this in a mean spirt, in a sarcastic tone, or a condescending manner. I'm just asking you and everyone here at DU, are you serious about this? Are you willing to give up Byrd or Dorgan or Johnson? I'm not talking about the primaries only, I mean all every election. Am I? I think I am, I really want to be. That's as far as I can give right now. I'm just so angry at this moment, but I have no idea what to do in terms of retribution.

This is their final peice to their puzzle. If Alito is confirmed he will knock us back to the 50's. Cmon These Senators know this, therefore they are a part of it. You need to see Senator Kennedys last plea on the Senate floor.

43. Yes... Serious as a heart attack.
Phony/fake/weak representation can be as bad or worse than no representation. Why?

1) Because they present the illusion that the little guy is being represented in Washington, and that illusion prevents the rise of genuine representation, which pushes us even further into the abyss.

2) Their appeasement creates conflict within the party. They divide us. They keep us sniping at one another with comments like the one above.

3) They bolster the argument that the Democratic Party is in disarray and doesn't know what it stands for.

4) They usually manage to slice off just enough votes to keep the fascist agenda moving full steam ahead.

5) They appear to stand for nothing; their weakness and pandering drives away potential Dem voters.

I'm sure others can add to the list.

The point is, we might very well be worse off without these traitors in the short-term because their defeats would result in devastating republican gains. But in the long run we might very well be much better off without them because tossing them may lead to a reinvigorated party of the people that truly represents the little guy.

So yes - I'm serious.

45. Good post.
You have listed good reasons why these Vichaye Dems should be tossed out - #1 is especially important. I think that is the reason why a lot of Americans are so complacent; they think everything is business as usual in the Beltway.

You should make this into a topic of its own, explaining 'why' these Dems need to be removed.

71. I am serious, but still level headed.
I think this is a feet to the fire, we have to keep on them and pound on their desks with WHY? WHY? WHY?

Part of me wants to call Harry Reid up and tell him to go to hell. But, if Harry Reid has some moderate Republicans in the wings and every DEM will vote Alito down, even though some DEMS are voting to move on... that would be a shrewd strategy.

If Alito gets slapped down, I could forgive not supporting the filibuster and voting for closure as long as the job gets done.

I still think those that didn't show solidarity should be put on notice that the people are mad and we aren't going to take it any more.

The filibuster is a messy device, it makes us look like we're holding our breath to get attention, but since this will be life and death for some in our country if Alito gets in, it was a valid means.

Part of me even thinks Alito's appointment ISN'T the end of the world. He CAN be IMPEACHED along with the rest of the goons. We can trumpet his every move in court - make him watch his p's and q's. I mean he did SAY he would be fair and impartial. Hold him to his word. As long as he behaves, fine.

Should he have a lapse into his corporate mentallity rev up the screech machind. File breach of ethics cases against him whenever he back peddles on his word. Gather the evidence to show the country "we told you so" and he'll probably behave himself as well as Clinton did while he was under the microscope.

He'll be afraid to show his true colors and probably resort to some weakness we can exploit. Probably slip up and wear his white hood to court instead of his black robes some day.

The real vote was today, the cloture vote, our chance to stop this train wreck was today. And once again, the Dems fell down, or rather laid down.

Threatening to seek redress for the actions tommorrow is a case of closing the barn doors after the horse is gone. The redress you seek should be extracted from the list of Dems voting Aye today.

To JK and TK and the other members of genus Senator erectus, however...I'll give all I can, as usual.

68. Exactly! And they better NOT send any "Donate to Our Campaign" emails
NO MORE! Enough!

I didn't watch the whole vote, but Kerry (and a few of the hard-core Dems) had to be devastated. THIS time I thought they'd really do it.

There are NO more 'tomorrows'...'next time'...
(Sigh.)

81. DiFi voted no on cloture/no on Alito
At least direct your ire to someone who sold us out yesterday. DiFi did the right thing.

73. Byrd has me so confused
He is so right on the Iraq and professes his need to protect the Constitution. Carries the Constitution in his coat pocket. Yet, will vote for Alioto. I know he is old.
Alioto will destroy our freedoms. The US will no longer be a free country,as far as I am concerned. THe Federalist Society will return us back to the days of pre Bill of RIghts. No exaggeration or sore grapes. The Federalist Society acknowledges on their web site.
Unless you are a new age slave owner, of course.

74. I am calling all 21 traitorous dem senators...
and telling them that REAL, UNRECONSTRUCTED DEMOCRATS are organized and will be placing REAL, UNRECONSTRUCTED DEMOCRATS on the primary ballot to oppose them. If they are afraid of the repugs, that will be nothing after the REAL, UNRECONSTRUCTED DEMOCRATS get done with them.

I am ready to fight.

76. Send them one of these:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2420366

then make sure we have a true democrat to oppose them in the primaries. There's no point in simply removing them without a superior replacement.

78. So will you support a Republican who will vote to confirm the next
conservative Supreme Court judge? You just said that you will raise money for the Senator's opponent.

79. Primaries. Primaries.
I have never voted Republican and don't intend to.

I am just sick and tired of these democrats who take money from us and don't represent us. They are useless.

What was Byrd's rationale? Alito essentially against increased mine safety. How's that working for you Senator?

If you take money from democratic PACs and 527s, you better damn well step up to the fucking plate and vote with dems.

Rant off.

80. Its 1993 all over again
Clinton pushed NAFTA threw over the objections of many in his own party and union reps everywhere vowed to punish the Democrats that voted for NAFTA. The result: Republican's take over both Houses and we've been screwed ever since.
