CNN host asks Dem. Rep-Elect Ellison to prove he's not working with the enemy
Outrageous. Here's the America Blog info, along with the link to the Media Matters clip and contact info:
http://americablog.blogspot.com/2006/11/cnn-host-asks-newly-elected-us.html

Fire this guy. This is beneath CNN. If we want to watch bigots on national TV, we can go to FOX. We don't need this kind of crap on a network that, in spite of what many of our commenters seem to feel, I still have a lot of respect for. And the idea that somehow this is simply "politically incorrect," which is what the CNN host, conservative shock-jock Glenn Beck, claimed (in an effort to make his racist question seem okay), is equally abhorrent. It is not "politically incorrect" to ask a Muslim-American to "prove" that he's not a terrorist simply because he's a Muslim. It's racism and bigotry and intolerance and prejudice. It's digusting and un-American. Calling it politically incorrect only further diminishes the offense.

Here's the interview, and Media Matters has the video:
On the November 14 edition of his CNN Headline News program, Glenn Beck interviewed Rep.-elect Keith Ellison (D-MN), who became the first Muslim ever elected to Congress on November 7, and asked Ellison if he could "have five minutes here where we're just politically incorrect and I play the cards up on the table." After Ellison agreed, Beck said: "I have been nervous about this interview with you, because what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.' " Beck added: "I'm not accusing you of being an enemy, but that's the way I feel, and I think a lot of Americans will feel that way."

15. It's funny you say that
A conservative friend of my who loves Glenn Beck tried to defend this shit. So, I asked him, as an American of German descent, to PROVE absolutely that he wasn't a Nazi. He couldn't answer me, so by Glenn Beck's logic, my friend is a suspected Nazi.

4. He should ask Christians (because of McVeigh and Olympic bomber)
t prove they're not working with enemy terrorists.

After all, fair is fair. If it's the religion that causes you kill doctors, bomb Olympic games, bomb abortion clinics, etc., then every person of that religion should have to "prove" that they're not a bomber/terrorist.

I can't believe CNN hired this Rush Limbaugh Wannabe. I guess they weren't being "fair and balanced" enough.

8. A lot of Americans believe that way? Apparently not his constituents
beck is just dying for attention. He knows of no other way to make a living. He knows he has to be outrageous and hateful and ugly (conservative strengths) or else he won't be able to pay the bills. He's one of the millions of Americans who think they are patriotic and god loves only them.

Pure slime
No two ways about it, that sort of "commentary" is indefensible. Beck should never have been given a forum - he's like a Rush Limbaugh Mini-Me.

9. I can't believe the same network that has Christian Amanpour....
would have such a pig as Glenn Beck. I've heard him say he's all about entertainment....why would CNN stoop to such a level? It's sad really....but, I have a feeling the tides are changing!

13. Who are his advertisers.
This is foul - but complaining to CNN won't matter. They don't care as long as they're raking in the dough.

Besides, I don't want them to think I watch this foul-mouthed racist in the first place.

However, I would be more than willing to write his advertisers, provide them with this transcript (and online video) and ask them why they support such hatred and racism.

11. I've come to the conclusion that this is a stunt to generate publicity
Say something controversial and get people to tune in. Except it was at the expense of a Muslim AMERICAN!

I'm sure Glen Beck is not stupid and realized that what he said was just going to generate controversy and make the bigots happy.

CNN is dead to me now.

12. So what did Ellison say? He should have said...
"You must have been asleep for the past week. We are in a new era, where we don't smear another American's patriotism just because they dissent or disagree- even the President agrees with this position. Smearing someone you disagree with is one of the reasons the Republicans lost last week, and I suspect, one of the reasons CNN is losing stature in the world of TV journalism, for it's willingness to give airtime to surrogate Republican smear artists such as yourself."

"Now as to your question: are you accusing me of giving aid and comfort to Al-Qaeda, our enemy? Are you accusing me of being what the Military Commissions Act defines as an Unlawful Enemy Combatant? Because if you are, I'm going to have to kick your ass right here on live TV".

That's what he should have said.
