My Fellow DU'ers: Please Stop Watching Fox. It Boosts Their Ratings & Income.
Every time any of us watch via cable or satellite the idiots at Fox, we are underwriting their right-wing agenda and their manipulative deception of the American public

We don't need to watch Fox to keep an eye on them. Anyone can keep up with Fox by going to News Hounds. And if more of us go there to monitor Fox, I'm sure they will provide even greater coverage of the Murdoch/Ailes camp's activities. In case you don't know their URL, here it is: http://www.newshounds.us/.

And stop going to their website, too! Every "hit" on their site is computed and then shown to their advertisers as well. Don't feed the mouth that bites your hand.

News Hounds says "We watch Fox so you don't have to". What a great motto. Bookmark their address at http://www.newshounds.us/.

Every thousand viewers that stop watching Fox will be like throwing gasoline on a fire that is already burning. Income at Fox News depends on advertising which depends on ratings.

What do you say? Let's make the rest of November and the entire month of December a FOX FREE ZONE. All posting of Fox "news" stories should come from News Hounds or another source other than their website.

You won't see me posting anything from Fox here.

Help Keith Olbermann's ratings and PBS and progressive friendly news outlets. Hell, watch MSNBC or CNN if you have to, but don't be lured into even one second of Fox.

How about it? Tell a friend. Make the Holiday Season a Fox Free Season.

21. Whether or not you want to admit it, every time you watch Pox News
you are delivering a warm body to the sponsors. You are being affected by the commercial, whether or not you buy the product.

Do an experiment. The next time you're with a group of people and a television is on in the room, pay close attention to what happens every time a commercial comes on. It doesn't matter whether you're watching sports or news or sitcoms or anything else. As soon as the commercial starts, all conversation stops. It's really weird, once you start to pay attention to it.

Admen know how to grab our attention. That's how watching Pox is affecting you. Giving their sponsors a warm body is giving their sponsors a method of reinforcing the behavior.

November is sweeps month. That means they do their best to run programming people will watch, then go back to dreck in December. Not watching is a great idea. Your brain will thank you and admen will curse you.

3. I'll still watch it when Wes Clark is on - and only then.
I wish I had a Neilssen box - it would show that I tuned in, in time to see him and tuned right back out the moment he was gone.

8. It doesn't boost their ratings unless your household's viewing habits...
are monotored by Nielsen. And it only boosts their income if you buy products or services from Fox advertisers (who advertise on ALL THE OTHER networks, too).

10. I never watch Fox news... but I do watch the local fox channel
I love House... Hopefully you are talking about the Faux News-- Personally, I have never understood why anyone on this site even watches them. Who cares what O'Rilley does? By watching and being pissed off, you still increase his ratings.

No faux news channel, and of the many, many channels that are provided, the faux network is the ONLY one that comes in black and white and sometimes not at all.

15. we ate at a Salsarita's the other day - they had three tv's all tuned in
to FOX. I wonder if it would be worth contacting any business that features FOX as the mandatory channel and telling them to turn the channel or they'll lose your business.

although I admit it's never occured to me to go there. But if you don't have Nielson monitoring it really dosn't make any difference if you watch FAUX NEWS CHANNEL -IT DOES NOT BOOST THEIR RATINGS. It certainly is no staple of mine, but I occasionally stop on my way between CNN and MSNBC (CNN=60,FOX=62,MSNBC=64 on my cable system) and if there is something that catches my interest I may watch for a few minutes. It's more like slowing down for a traffic crash. Just because I'm interested in seeing what happened doesn't mean I want to be in a crash myself. It's just morbid curiosity.

18. This is a great idea that needs to be reiterated
I'm telling all of my friends the same thing. I confess the only time I watch FauxNews is when Olbermann is doing some puff piece about celebrities and I switch to to see if O'Reilly has someone interesting on. I'm almost cured of the habit at this point however...

19. I don't watch...
...prior to knowing what it was, I encountered it. Frankly, I was shocked by how hateful it was. There wasn't any news or information, just a barrage of insults and smears against those "dirty, overspending, commie, pinko, immoral, socialist, baby aborting, tree-hugging, stealing all the white man's jobs, conspiracy theorist, god-less liberals." :eyes:

I don't trust (or tolerate), any media in my home that encourages blatant bigotry.

I'm always suspect of people and especially media sources that can't seem to share their views without putting down, slamming and speaking ill of others in the process. They can't tell the world what their stance is unless they are advocating inequality and hatred of gays, women, blacks, immigrants, minorities, etc. Such tactics smack of Hitler and Nazi Germany. "Let's show everyone who the enemy is, divide and conquer--with hate." :puke: No thanks.

I appreciate your attempt to get others here to stop watching that garbage. :)

Way to go! :bounce:

24. Technically, unless you are an Nielsen family, it doesn't matter what you watch.
If you aren't being surveyed by the Nielsen ratings company then what you are watching does not affect the Nielsen ratings.

And you would know if you were a Nielsen family, because you have to sign a consent form to participate in their surveys.

So I can watch Fox all day long -- it doesn't matter

(However I don't cuz I can stand it)

Here's a link to Nielsen ratings site -- has info on how to become a Nielsen family:
