Maybe the cloture vote means that ONLY two dem senators need be replaced.
19 dems voting for cloture leads me to think that the whip reported that there weren't enough votes to filibuster, and letting all the dems from redder states have a vote for cloture to take to a more conservative consitutency rather than pleasing, say, me.

In other words, there may have been ONLY one or two senators that made the filibuster impossible despite the final totals.

In accord with the thread idea of making an example of one or two by targeting,

I'm wondering if the entire 19 would even have to be replaced. Maybe just replace the worst two and the rest will naturally fall into line because the votes will be close enough to make a difference and the remainder will hold firm.

I don't know. Maybe just consoling myself with the hope that 19 dem senators don't need to be pushed out.

1. It's probably too late but I'd dearly love it if Cantwell had a primary
challenger... Two huge strikes, and she should be out.

2. I'm wondering about that. Pryor, for example, was reported...
to be abstaining. When it came time to vote, and they didn't have the votes, did the Red Staters go on and vote yes?

3. Cantwell has opposition -- and REID must be replaced
Kerry should kick Reid's ass right out of the Minority Leader's post.

see http://www.votemark.org/

Mark Wilson is running against Cantwell in the Democratic primary.

7. I think Reid believes in party discipline.
And I think he is able to do it. Why move him? Move a couple of the weakest out of office and let him work. Maybe. I dunno.

10. Face it - they don't function as a team and it's not Reid's fault
It's 44 separate entities with 44 different agendas. The GOP works more as a traditional parliamentary party. Even when Clinton had Dem majorities (this after 12 years of GOP presidents) for his first 2 years it was still like pulling teeth.

8. I'd just like to stop shooting at two........
maybe I'm just dreaming. I'd like to think there was something salvagable, but what can we show the nation if there isn't a reprisal against somebody?
there has to be an example set.

9. A vote for cloture is a vote for Alito. That is a fact. Any
other answer is a lie or an excuse.

11. Straight into the red states
Tennessee, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Montana. We have to stop preaching to the choir and start taking the message straight to the people in the reddest counties in the reddest part of the country. We're not going to turn this around chipping at the edges.

12. Well, it all ends up there. At least until democracy is called off.

I think that's the point Obama was making, we've got to win some elections and be a power in the populace. There's no real substitute. If there's a dash of blue added everywhere then nobody needs cover.
