Fred Phelps to protest at funerals of girls killed in Hunstville School Bus Crash
From "Pam's House Blend" (Sorry, no MSM link yet).

The Rotting Cryptkeeper to picket funerals of teens killed in bus accident
Wednesday, November 22, 2006

The lowest of the low. I'm trying to figure out the fag connection to the accident in Huntsville (after all, we're to blame for everything in Fred Phelps's universe), but really, it's kind of hard to get into the minds of the freaks of hate at the Westboro Baptist Church. The Phelps machine plans to make its presence known at the funerals of Christine Collier, Nicole Ford, and Tanesha Hill.

WBC to picket the funerals of school children killed in Huntsville, Alabama, when their school bus from Lee High School plunged 30 feet off a highway overpass -in religious protest and warning: cc God is not mocked!" Gal. 6:7. God Hates Fags! & Fag-Enablers! Ergo, God hates Alabama and America because they have gone the way of ancient Sodom and have become The Land of the Sodomite Damned,

"They say still unto them that despise me, The Lord hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you." Jer. 23:17.

"Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind; it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked. The anger of the Lord shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly." Jer. 23:19-20.

"I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer." Prov. 1:26-28.

God has cursed Alabama and America: 'There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked." Isa. 48:22.

Tom Moss of the Social Justice Commitee, Unitarian Universalist Church of Huntsville plans a counter protest, according to Blender Ken, who emailed me this.

I'm of two minds about this. On one hand, I believe that there should be a public outcry against Phelps' hateful homophobic agenda, and a clear message that Huntsville rejects him and his attempt to capitalize on personal tragedy.

On the other hand, I recognize that he is looking for media minutes, and the more counter-protestors there are, the more press Phelps and his hate group will get. He may bring 15 people to picket the funeral. We could organize a counter-protest of many times that number, but that would add to the circus and the stress for families and friends of the deceased.

Here's something that has been done successfully in other cities: collect pledges for a good cause for each minute that Phelps and his group demonstrate. The longer Phelps is there, the more money gets donated to local gay and lesbian groups. In this case, I think it would be appropriate to split donations between the fund for the students' families, and Aids Action Coalition.

20. It Was The Coolest Thing
That could come out of a tragedy, that is.

A couple of months ago, a family in east central Florida lost a loved one in Iraq. There were rumors that the Westboro monsters were going to demonstrate along the funeral route. Well, a bunch of bikers found out about it and lined the funeral route - right up on the road, waving American flags. And then the coolest thing was what one of the bikers said when interviewed by a local news station.

He said he knew that the protesters had the right to do that, but that it was the lowest point in the dead soldier's parents lives because it's so hard to bury a child.

Now normally, I find large scale overt displays of patriotism annoying, but not in this case. The motives of these bikers, not to be obnoxious or cramming "love America" down anyone's throat but out of consideration for the bereaved was really touching.

We need more people doing this. When these creeps are going to protest, there should be a counter demonstration. No shouting, we don't want to turn it into a circus, but holding signs that speak of love. You know, what Jesus' message was supposed to be (while careful to avoid actual mention of Jesus for non-Christians)

Patriot Guard Riders Mission Statement

The Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation. We have one thing in common besides motorcycles. We have an unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for America’s freedom and security. If you share this respect, please join us.

We don’t care what you ride or if you ride, what your political views are, or whether you’re a hawk or a dove. It is not a requirement that you be a veteran. It doesn't matter where you’re from or what your income is; you don’t even have to ride. The only prerequisite is Respect.

Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic objectives.

1. Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities.

2. Shield the mourning family and friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors.

We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means.

To those of you who are currently serving and fighting for the freedoms of others, at home and abroad, please know that we are backing you. We honor and support you with every mission we carry out, and we are praying for a safe return home for all.

Their website has pictures of many of them. Great bunch, IMO, but then again, I'm a biker.

Phelps is a megalomaniac. He needs to go protest a couple of funerals in Iran.

11. Even Gov. Bob Riley (R-Fundie) can't deal with Phelps!
http://www.whnt.com/Global/story.asp?S=5717962

He also commented on news that a group from Topeka, Kansas plans to protest at the student's funerals.

"We live in America, and people have a right to protest. But just so there is no question, these people aren't invited and they aren't welcome."

The Westboro Baptist Church, which protests against homosexuality, has requested a permit from the City of Huntsville to protest at the funerals.

Then again, Riley isn't your run-of-the-mill fundie pol: he once proposed a tax increase to fund services for the poor, saying it was "the Christian thing to do."

He attracted crossover support from liberals; it was his fellow cons who shot it down. :eyes:

13. Help me understand this
The logic here is that God punishes American citizens by death because of the existence of homosexuals.

So (in Fred Phelps' crazy universe) if we rounded up all the homosexuals and executed them, the rest of us would be immortal. Because God wouldn't "kill" anyone if there were no homosexuals.

And to think, all this time we've been working on antibiotics and seatbelts and sanitation and cures for cancer and good nutrition and all these things to prolong human life, and the answer was staring us in the face the whole time! Just bump off all the gays, and we'll all live forever.

I suppose that means that thoroughly gay-unfriendly nations like Iran must have a tremendous life expectancy for their non-gay citizens. Nobody ever dies in traffic accidents in Iran, I'm guessing. I wonder nobody ever noticed any amazing traffic accident statistics from Iran? The devil must be blinding our eyes and keeping us from the truth.

What do you suppose the ratio of gay people to deaths is? Like, how many homosexuals would have to disappear before God would feel ok enough to spare the lives of say, 3 Alabama schoolgirls or 1 American soldier serving in Iraq? I'm just curious. Maybe we could figure out the exact ratio and use that to our advantage. Every time someone is diagnosed with cancer or something, we could go out and find a gay person or two and run them over and God would cure it.

I bet Fred Phelps would know the answer to all these questions. After all, he has a direct line to God, right?

(BTW, just in case one of the DU humor-impaired reads this post and wants to get their panties in a knot, this entire post is irritated sarcasm. I hate Fred Phelps and I think his ideas are beyond ludicrous.)

16. I was wondering the same thing.
Is this malevolent lunatic suggesting that if there were no homosexuals (or no laws granting them civil rights) there would be no traffic accidents? Do traffic accidents occur with greater frequency in states or countries where gay people are tolerated, and are there fewer traffic accidents where they are not?

Phelps truly needs an ass-kicking of some sort. I like the idea of pledging contributions based on the amount of time he and his collection of assholes spend protesting. So protest all you want, shithead. Some organization you hate will get more money, the more you do.

28. I know what I'm about to suggest is radical
but Phelps and his ilk are our American Taliban, and need something quite serious to deter them. Even the Freepers despise them, the homophobes over there know damn good and well Phelps is not doing their side any good by protesting at the funerals of innocents.

Here's the suggestion: Some Governor has to announce that he will give a full pardon to anyone who shoots a Phelps-led or inspired protest of this nature. It's fully constitutional, any governor can pardon for any reason he wishes. Maybe only Arnie Schwartzenegger has the stones to do this, but it's an idea I'd like to see tried. What better way to say, "stay the fuck out of here, assholes!"?

19. If any group is worthy of this, it ought to be Phelps and family...
line 'em up, strip 'em down, and liberally apply tar and feathers to them...then run them out of town on triangular fencing.

Used to work in these United States.

Or, perhaps the townspeople could take a page from the Bush/Rove playbook...and arrange a 'freespeech' zone some 5 miles from the cemetary.

Either works for me.

His behavior is outlandish and IMO dangerous.
He goes from town-to-town holding his idiotic, moronic and anti-Christian demonstrations for the purpose of getting attention.
This has ceased to be about gays and God and has become about fred and media attention.

on note:
I'm buying my friends and me tuxedoes and when fred kicks the bucket we're doing a chorus line on his grave nightly for six months.
It'll be the warmest spot on Earth. Cuz I'm guessing fred'll be frying down there for quite some time.

anyone who is not a parishioner of Phelps' "church" is a tool of Satan and destined to dwell in the fiery bowels of hell for all eternity. :)

See 'ya there, everyone! :hi:

This unholy piece of human waste and his followers don't deserve the air they breathe. Someday, somewhere, somebody is going to lose their cool because of Phelps' maniacal rantings and is going to pop them all. Not a tear will be shed outside of their limited, insane circle of hell. Not one. The world will be a far better place once they've departed.
