Those Two Little Bush Brats Should Fucking Behave Themselves
This crap they're pulling in Argentina must really be something if we're actually hearing about it over here. And don't give me any of that "Oh leave the kids alone!" crap either. They're 25 years old and should take some responsibility for their actions. Great reflections on their parents those two. Spoiled, priveleged, entitled, self-indulgent, shallow brats. They're 25 years old with absolutely no sense of responsibility or decorum fitting of someone in their situation, and they've had more opportunity than any other person on this planet so they get no slack from me whatsoever. Fuck 'em. It's pathetic and disgraceful. Kids their age are dying by the dozens/hundreds in Iraq because of their asshole father, we PAY for their secret service detail and they go around the globe partying like a couple of Paris Hilton's. It's shameful.

1. That's what's so outrageous
I think since they are the daughters of the president they should show more maturity. You are correct our military their age and even younger are fighting and dying in a country where their father started a war.

The least they could do is behave themselves when they travel. But bush shows his distain for this country what should we expect from his offspring.

17. Notice how it advances understanding, yields insights, and influences
... people to consider other perspectives? Yes, the DU community is truly fortunate to have folks willing to offer their best, in-depth, and value-based perspectives on issues of general interest. Civil and polite discourse - that's what it's all about. It just warms the cockles of my heart that a community of diverse people united in their core respect for demos (the people) demonstrate that respect so consistently through mature and intelligent reasoning. Yep. It's been a shining time on DU.

64. our present uncertainty and a growing horror about our victory is the cause.
Now that the GOP is content in dirtying up us form now until we actually take control (with the full strength help of the MSM) our leaders realize a couple of things. Yes we won, although the senate is now in doubt. It now becomes our responsibility to fix the last 6 years of mayhem and disaster, while dealing with a barely sentient, disengaged and deeply disturbed president.

So, when we read about the twins embarrassing themselves in South America, we should take any amusement, wry, sarcastic even sad, in stride. We see before us the kind of behavior that our president cherished and probably still exhibits in private. Immature, clueless, and all too connected and powerful for our country's good.

"We must be the change we wish to see in the world."

It's one of the more seminal articulations of Kant's Categorical Imperative: "Act only according to that maxim by which you can at the same time will that it would become a universal law."

Paul Wellstone found a way to say the same thing in raising his own children: "Never separate the lives you live from the words you speak."

For many DUers, a seminal philosophy regarding both Iraq and DU itself can be summed up nicely: "We sure have been fighting a lot. I've been avoiding the place." That's it in a nutshell - left and right joining hands in a unified age-old personal philosophy: "Let George do it."

Even in this thread, we see the principled defense of two of our nation's citizen ambassadors as they walk the talk of their generation and family values: "Fuck those people dying! People die all the time. Get over it! It's time to run naked and paaaarty!"

It's heart-warming. It's enlightening for some DUers to be called 'an old fart' and 'a geezer' and 'mendacious' and 'arrogant' and 'condescending' by so many other DUers merely because one advocates the idea that a nation share the burdens of the results of its own self-governance. It just brings a real warmth ... really.

61. Secret Service protection is not a waste of money
I have zero respect for the man who is currently President. I have great respect for the office that he holds and an appreciation of how that office effects us. Footing the bill to protect the first family is not a waste of money. If the first daughters are kidnapped it compromises the office of the presidency because the President will have to choose between what is in the best interest of his family and what is in the best interest of the country.

The twins didn't say "Hey daddy, why don't you run for President so that we can have taxpayer funded armed guards follow us around everywhere." The fact that they have to be protected and the fact that we have to pay for it is an unfortunate reality of the society that we live in.

137. i agree with this post
the twins must be protected, as hippo tron points out, it would not do to have some terrorist or narco lord kidnapping a member of the president's family

i read an article, shortly after 43 said he would run for president, that said the twins had begged him not to run because of the harm it would do to their privacy and the need to always have security around just as they were entering college, they didn't ask for this, what young girl just looking for a good time would ask for their dad to be president?

do people ever stop and think how it must interfere with the spontaneity of your sex life to have to always maneuver around a bunch of armed guards?

i don't blame them for trying to have a life while they are still young and argentina is certainly a country where the dollar can go far, sure, the running nekkid in the halls is pretty tacky but i bet we all did some tacky things when we were young and crazy

194. My dad was a principal
and we had to curtail our fun because of who he was - most of our friends were his students. We stayed out of trouble out of respect for our father. And we survived.

Now if a couple of middle class kids who had a dad who wasn't all that important can stay out of trouble, then the daughters of the president can. They are adults and their father has been in public service for most of their life. Their grandfather was president when they were small. They should know the drill by now.

I often think of Chelsea Clinton who is approximately the same age. She grew up in the governor's mansion and then moved to the White House as a teenager. And she is gainfully employed today and manages to stay off the gossip pages. Why do we expect less of the bush twins?

Sorry but they get no free ride from me. I deeply resent that they play like a couple of spoiled brats who are old enough to know better. And I can't wait for the day when this whole family is no longer wasting the taxpayers' money.

all. But they are AMERICA when they go some place and we get tarred and feathered by the stupid shit they do. They are WAY too damned old to do this kind of crap. THey also need to work. Day in, day out. Work like the rest of us. They are a disgrace to their age group, most of whom don't have the luxury to run around and be sluts. I don't know anyone their age in my area that is not working, even a bunch of kids that have drug problems. They are indefensible in my opinion. The idiots.

Not me. The post was about their behavior and galavanting and it happens to also be done on OUR dime. They are representing this country whether they like it or not and we ARE footing the bill for at least SOME of their galavanting and partying. I never said they SHOULDN'T be protected.

You have no respect for the job the SS does. You think it's easy protecting those two spoiled little pieces of shit who do EVERYTHING to make their job harder??

I'm not aware of the details of the trip so I'm not sure if they are supposedly there in some official capacity or if it is purely vacation. If they are there in official capacity then they shouldn't be partying on our dime. However if they are there on vacation and the only expenses we are paying for are security related I'm okay with that.

According to press reports. And even if it wasn't, my point still holds.

Too bad for them, they ARE using gov't resources to party their brains out. And like it or not, their galavanting and partying makes them harder to protect and a greater security risk. You think it's easy protecting those spoiled little shits doing everythign to make the SS's job HARDER and doing it on OUR dime?

What the Bush daughters are doing in Argentina is no more our business that President Clinton's sex life was the Republicans; they are private citizens and whinging about them like this just because of who their father is is something we should be above.

Go and find something that is a) important and/or b) clearly not none of your business whatsoever to get angry about. There are plenty out there.

As many have pointed out, they are adults, they campaigned for their father, and they appear to be having quite the high time since he stole the 2004 election. It's offensive enough that they aren't in Iraq but they don't even have jobs! So while the rest of us slave at jobs and bring home paychecks that barely keep us afloat, these two little nitwits get to party with the taxpayer funded secret service along to protect them.

Remember last year when we Jenna was supposedly teaching those poor little children at that charter school in DC? Did she get fired or was working just too much for her poor widdow self?

I will NEVER forget Ms. Picture of Maturity sticking her tongue out at reporters during the campaign.

These girls make me ill. When I think of how Rush was unmercifully cruel to Chelsea Clinton - who was only a young teenager at the time - while the MSM gives these 2 little bitches a free ride, I just want to scream.

99. Mutatis mutandis, no.
As a taxpayer, I wouldn't have objections to doing so for e.g. Euan Blair.

The alternatives are a) not providing the president's family with security, which means hostage situations every few months, or b) turning the president's family into prisoners, which is clearly a gross violation of their rights (and the fact that you don't like their father, or that they're rich and privileged, does *not* justify that; a principle is only a principle rather than a prejudice if you apply it consistently).

Although it's grossly unpalatable to have to accept the parallel, it is in fact an even more clear-cut example of the same principle by which the state provides benefits to the disabled.

You *have* a constitutionally-protected right to be outraged about whatsoever you please.

You don't have any course of action you can take, nor should you. These are private citizens, and what they do is none of your business.

Given that they don't have the option of doing anything *not* "on your dime", the fact that they are "on" it doesn't place any obligation on them.

102. What A Load Of Crap
Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 01:12 PM by Beetwasher
Nobody suggested that the president's family NOT get SS protection or that they become prisoners. No one, anywhere on this thread so that is a load of crap that you made up.

How about option C: They get SS protection AND behave responsibly as befits someone in their position, as pretty much every other child of a President has done so up until this point?

Someone in THEIR position SHOULD be expected to behave accordingly and properly and responsibly as befits that position. I don't give a shit if they had no choice in the matter of their Dad becoming Pres. It may have been an excuse at one point, but they are now 25 and should be fully functioning responsible adults who are aware of their uniques situation AND PRIVELEGE. And that PRIVELEGED position they enjoy comes WITH RESPONSIBILITY. If they cannot accept that responsibility then guess what? I would be ALL for NOT allowing them to travel internationally as their behavior makes them a much greater security risk. After all, their daddy has no problems whimsically restricting travel of OTHER US citizens deemed to be security risks.

Additionally, they were in fact at least partially on US business according to some press reports, but even if they weren't, we as taxpayers DO have a right to criticize their behavior when WE are footing at least part of the bill that ALLOWS them to have the opportunity AND PRIVELEGE to travel safely and party their empty heads off w/out fear under the protection of taxpayer funded security. They in turn have the responsibility to act in a manner that that does NOT increase the chances that they will cause an international incident or become a threat to Nat'l Security.

Is it our business if they are kidnapped and have to be rescued by US forces, or if daddy decides to attack another country he says was involved?

Is a major target that could spark an international incident. 133. Great answer!
So, you think it's a good thing that so many DU'ers are calling those girls "bitches" and "spoiled brats."

Seriously, who cares?
Why care?
What possible good comes from wasting more than an ounce of energy being angry at these two?

Put the anger where it belongs. On the Republicans who've led this country on a path of destruction. On the corporatists who are intent on wiping out the gains made by workers and human rights activists in the 20th century.

If and when the "twins" actively and effectively promote that agenda, then yeah, have at'em.

But for now, it's just a case of misplaced anger.

More so, it sounds like frustrated rage, seeing these words strung together the way they are.

I think it's stupid. And I think it hurts our cause.

But I guess some of you were just repeating the party line when you were upset that douchebags like Limbaugh and company were attacking Chelsea Clinton.

Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 05:54 PM by Beetwasher
Between Limbaugh calling a 13 yr old Chelsea Clinton, who did absolutely nothing except exist, "The WH Dog" and my post criticizing these 25 year old women's behavior, then you are more ignorant than I could possibly imagine. Chelsea wasn't running around partying in foreign countries and being asked to leave by the US embassy. I'd say that behavior that leads to the US embassy asking you to leave a country deserves criticism. If you don't it's because you're ignorant.

Try to rationalize it all you want, you're attacking two people who aren't in public office, didn't run for public office, and don't have any clout.

You're attacking the children of politicians for acting like many 25-year-olds would act.

25-year-olds getting drunk and stupid and partying in hotels is not an issue over which I fret.

Did she actually DO anything worthy of being called a dog?

This is not jus some 25 year olds partying. These are the daughters of the President, whose behavior has led to them being ASKED TO LEAVE ARGENTINA BY THE US EMBASSY. They are doing this at least partially on MY tax dollars and their safety is a matter of Nat'l Security. They are fair game for criticism for their innapropriate behavior. Period.

What part of that escapes you? Good grief, your ignorance is astounding.

I could care less what the Sean Hannitys of the world think.

I'm talking about every-day people I meet in my daily business. Friends. Family. Co-workers. People I talk to in my job.

If the original poster's rant was said aloud in a crowded room, people would avoid lower their heads, avoid-eye contact and leave the room and then go home and think, "boy, that guy has issues."

Answer me this: Why should anyone even try to muster anger at the Bush twins?

They may be spoiled brats. Their politics probably are loathesome.

But why is it an issue? Why should American's give a rats ass what two rich 25-year-old women are doing in an Argentinian hotel room?

mentioned how the twins had ditched their security detail, and this was prior to Daddy's becoming the most hated man on the planet. They're 25 now and they should have enough freakin' common sense not to make their security any more difficult, especially when they are out of the country.

I would also think that they would/could/should understand that eyes around the globe will be carefully watching them and try to avoid embarrassing themselves on the world stage, but I digress.

118. I have to wonder if the reaction reflects a double standard
If the twins were males and were being promiscuous - (but not abusing anyone) would people say they were "Spoiled, privileged, entitled, self-indulgent, shallow brats" or would people be envious of their opportunities - perhaps there would be talk of the eligible bachelors - and the women who fawned over them ? Of course that reaction is what you would expect 30 years ago - but then maybe things haven't changed all that much.

Now - people don't assume that the Bush women need a man - but men aren't expected to want to marry them either.

So what is there to say? And how do we expect people to act these days. As this thread suggests - some people have no expectations - some do.

Some people don't want to hear about expectations for the Bush twins because they would not want any such expectations for themselves.

At what age are men and women expected to act like "grown ups". Is it socially acceptable at any age to run around drunk and naked, etc? Is it mostly a question of public and private? As long as the door is closed and no cameras are on - no harm, no foul? Though these days - someone is bound to have a camera.

I expect high profile people to act with discretion in a public place. Society in general tends to expect people who have such roles to be highly intelligent and somewhat reserved. Not the lampshade on the head sorts of people. That is more how Chelsea was and Amy Carter (intelligent and reserved) - but that does not seem to be the personalities of the Bush twins. They seem to be products of the MTV generation as much as children of their parents. I think that they are a reflection of American society. If people don't like it - then take it up with everybody.

The way our society has gone the last couple of decades is more that women are free to act more like men have traditionally acted - without impunity and with encouragement - if anything. So do we as a society expect men and women to act with more discretion - or not? Would our society be better off with more pornography that shows men as objects for women - there for women's pleasure and little else (like most pornography is now - only in reverse)? Do we want to encourage everyone to be as shallow as possible - the TV/porn images of our selves?

Does what anyone thinks about what anyone else does matter?

And if it doesn't - then why do we have threads about people's behavior - this, Kramer, whatever? Isn't that an attempt to influence public opinion/society in general? Or is it just people being gossipy? Or is this just an attempt to one-up the Republicans for having a president who is not intelligent and reserved - but who is/was a master at partying/socializing?

The twins "opportunties" are being squandered just as surely as their father squandered his. Evidently the best schools are just there for the attending, not for preparing to become contributing members of society.

154. If someone won the lottery at age 25
would they have to be employed? Why?

I know people who retired in their 30's. There is nothing that says people have to be employed. It seems that our society celebrates those who are not - or who have the "fun" jobs, anyway.

Sure it's nice if people are "contributing members of society"- but I think it's a hell of lot better for someone who does not need to work to do nothing than it is for someone who already has plenty of money to sit around "working" (exploiting others is more like it) - where "working" amounts to figuring out how to get other people to do all the dirty work - while the so-called worker golfs or some other nonsense.

The people who really are "contributing to society" are usually paid shit or less. Maybe the Bush twins have figured that out.

The fact that you don't get it that the "twins" are in a unique and PRIVELEGED position that comes w/ certain responsibilities, responsibilities that they shirk, repeatedly, speaks volumes about your level of understanding (or lack of it).

217. No, Of Course Not, Why Be Informed?
It's so much easier to just make up hairbrained nonsense about any subject whenever you feel like it. Why consult w/ experts who have studied the issues you just make up stuff about? It's just too damn hard!

224. They have a responsibility to act as American ambassadors at all times
They probably didn't choose this responsibility (Katherine Harris did), but it is theirs none the less. They can't have normal lives, ever, and they certainly can't have them while their father is the President of the United States. They must, at all times, act with dignity, decorum, and as ambassadors of the United States.

Is that fair to them?

No.

But, in the immortal words of Joan Crawford, as related through Mommy Dearest, "Who ever said that life was fair?"

Some of our obligations are the results of our own actions, and sometimes they are thrust upon us. The mark of a person's character is what they then do with those obligations.

228. I agree.
I'm laughing at the responses here but I said on another thread that the girls should party but at least show a little responsibility since they are "first daughters". They should try and be discreet as they can cause they know all these tabloids are out there. I wouldn't mind hanging out with them because they seem like fun girls. I like hanging out with fun people.

232. And who doesn't?
People who are not fun. People I don't want to hang out with.

Unfortunately, they don't have that option. I feel sorry for the children of presidents; they're held to a higher standard than the rest of us.

And what a lot of people here forget is that many DUers also have Republican Freeper parents, wild youths, and ended up just fine.

I don't mind the drinking and carousing. If I find fault with the Bush Twins, it is for their apparent apathy. I'd rather have them be conservative "spokesmodels" than to have no opinion at all. At least then I could respect them, if not agree.
