The Anti-Empire Report - Would Jesus Get Out of Iraq?
'The good news is that the Republicans lost.

The bad news is that the Democrats won.

The burning issue -- US withdrawal from Iraq -- remains as far from resolution as before.

A clear majority of Americans are opposed to the war and almost all of them would be very happy if the US military began the process of leaving Iraq tomorrow, if not today. The rest of the world would breathe a great sigh of relief and their long-running love affair with the storybook place called "America" could begin to come back to life.

A State Department poll conducted in Iraq this past summer dealt with the population's attitude toward the American occupation. Apart from the Kurds -- who assisted the US military before, during, and after the invasion and occupation, and don't think of themselves as Iraqis -- most people favored an immediate withdrawal, ranging from 56% to 80% depending on the area.

The State Department report added that majorities in all regions except Kurdish areas said that the departure of coalition forces would make them feel safer and decrease violence.' http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Nov06/Blum24.htm

2. Agreed.
But if he were stuck with this particular situation, he would probably want to end the suffering as soon as possible.

4. Well, it says the rest of the world...
might breath a sigh of relief if we pulled out... but I wonder what, really, does the rest of the world think we ought to do? What is the opinion in Europe? Might they now think that since we broke it, we should fix it? Of course, since we definitely don't seem able to fix it, perhaps we should get out and thus stop our continuing contribution to the problems.

Heck, if we left--the IRAQIs might just decide to stop fighting each other--just to make it appear that the whole reason for the problem was us. Of course, they've never done what would serve them best. For instance, they should welcome international journalists--to document and communicate their situations to the world, and they should have just played "nice", let us rebuild their country, infrastructure, economy and given them a security force--then said "thanks for the help, no thanks for the pain, now leave, and leave now; we don't want anything to do with you".

Alas, they don't think like we do; which ought to have been painfully apparent even before all the pain.

6. He would not last long, confronting the AK47-yielding "religious" in the mosques.
"Ye have turned a house of prayer into a den of killers," would probably be the last word we got from the prophet.

After he had been tending the wounds, spiritual and physical, of the people there, of course.

7. The bad news is that the Democrats won.
Only for War Mongering Profiteers and Brain Dead Republicans is the fact that now Democrats are the majority bad news...
