So how many of us have gotten "the lecture" in the past 24 hrs?
Last night, I was glued to GD Alito like everyone else. My partner had already gone to bed and I was listening to Mike Malloy and surfing DU, when I heard her call from the bedroom, "Honey, I'm worried about you." "Uh-oh", I thought, "Here we go". She hadn't given me "the lecture" in months.

I walked into the bedroom and she started telling me how all this political stuff "just sort of seeps out of you." To my knowledge, I hadn't yelled or cried or kvetched or anything. Apparently this kind of disappointment and hushed rage acts like a sort of film that gets into your pores and changes you from the inside out. Her demand was simple. "You must find some good news tomorrow. Anything. Fluffy kittens saved from doom, penguins playing bingo, SOMETHING GOOD ON DU.

Well, any thoughts?

"Ok, this has got to stop!" when my 5 year old and 3 year old decided to play "Democrats" yesterday. This was after chanting at C-Span "No on cloture, yes filibuster!"

made me feel kinda hopeful about the next generation. Don't we NEED balast for all those little fundy monsters' kids running around playing...who knows...maybe "let's blow up the big bad abortion clinic"?

12. These are tough times. Good to keep a balance in your life. Try
and rebalance if it is taking a toll. Especially now - cause we need you during the 2006 elections. So warn her you will be busy then and give her/him some time and attention now.

For sure politics can become an obsession. Especially when there is so much at stake.

Come to an agreement with them and try hard to stick to it.

17. I have a great one, but it's political
The Wisconsin legislature failed to overturn Gov. Doyle's veto of the concealed carry law. This is a victory for the police in this state as well as the citizenry. We are one of only four states that do not permit people to carry concealed weapons, and we're going to stay that way.

This is a victory!!

19. Not me. I've been ignoring the angst. Tomorrow will be a better day.
Yup. I waiting to see all the worst possible laws the fundies will try to pass, and drag into the Supreme Court. I am hoping that Howard Dean has a set of strategies to take advantage of their oversteps and that progressive and democratic groups will all pull in the same direction.

This is war....and it could even be fun if we keep our senses of humor. I believe humor is a key element for us. It reminds of a little joke, a corny light bulb joke.

How many witches does it take to change a light bulb?
...

It depends on what you want to change it into.

I think that reminds us of the possibilities we have. And the time is coming that more and more Americans will be looking for alternatives to the big mess Bushco is making of things...everything they do, except for political machinations, they are screwing up, big time. And they are about to run out of the kool aid.

20. This tid bit was in the NY Times today and made me chuckle
Can you imagine the embarrassment!

Oops!

Here was this fellow whose shoelace had become undone. And here were these priceless Qing Dynasty vases. The site was a stairway at Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, England, where the three 300-year-old vases, donated in 1948, had been on display on a windowsill for 40 years. The unidentified man slipped on the shoelace, tried to steady himself as he tumbled down the stairway and brought the vases crashing down, the BBC reported. "They are in very, very small pieces, but we are determined to put them back together," said Margaret Greeves, the assistant director of the museum. Duncan Robinson, director of the museum, said, "Whilst the method of displaying objects is always under review, it is important not to overreact and make the museum's collections less accessible to the visiting public." As for the man with the undone shoelace, a spokesman for the museum said, "An ambulance was called, but the visitor left the museum on foot having been seen by paramedics and staff first-aiders." Mr. Robinson said, "It was a most unfortunate and regrettable accident, but we are glad that the visitor involved was able to leave the museum unharmed."
