Pro-Syria crowd packs city centre

Protesters vow to change government

It was last year’s “Cedar revolution” in reverse. Hundreds of thousands of pro-Syrian protesters waving Lebanese flags rallied yesterday in central Beirut, vowing to remain in the streets until the Western-backed Government was overthrown.

Fouad Siniora, the Prime Minister, says that the Government is determined to remain in power, accusing the Hezbollah-led opposition of attempting to mount a coup and acting on the orders of Syria and Iran.

With neither side willing to give way, many Lebanese fear that the political deadlock will be broken only by violence.

The huge crowd, numbering perhaps 800,000 or almost a quarter of the population, packed two squares in the city centre. They had travelled from all over Lebanon.

3. 75 million Americans in the streets of DC demanding change
would be about 25% of the US population.

says "Pro-Syria" Crowd or "Protestors." Amazing how they report on this and not the massive protests before and after Iraq Invasion here in America.

Oops...forgot...our protests were sponsored by A.N.S.W.E.R. and United for Peace and Justice...not worth mentioning in "respectible" media. :-(

7. somehow I doubt they'll do a beatific Time cover for this revolution
for the "Cedar Revolution," the protest numbers were something like,
10,000 anti-Syria
100,000 pro-Syria (the Time cover piece on the first anti-Syria protest ran after the 10x larger pro-Syria protest)
1,000,000 anti-Syria--then the country ran out of people to continue the geometric sequence

and now we have an 800,000-strong anti-Siniora sit-down in the shattered capital city
