University Study Links Psychosis With Supporting Bush!
A collective “I told you so” will ripple through the world of Bush-bashers once news of Christopher Lohse’s study gets out.

Lohse, a social work master’s student at Southern Connecticut State University, says he has proven what many progressives have probably suspected for years: a direct link between mental illness and support for President Bush.

Lohse says his study is no joke. The thesis draws on a survey of 69 psychiatric outpatients in three Connecticut locations during the 2004 presidential election. Lohse’s study, backed by SCSU Psychology professor Jaak Rakfeldt and statistician Misty Ginacola, found a correlation between the severity of a person’s psychosis and their preferences for president: The more psychotic the voter, the more likely they were to vote for Bush.

But before you go thinking all your conservative friends are psychotic, listen to Lohse’s explanation.

“Our study shows that psychotic patients prefer an authoritative leader,” Lohse says. “If your world is very mixed up, there’s something very comforting about someone telling you, ‘This is how it’s going to be.’”

The study was an advocacy project of sorts, designed to register mentally ill voters and encourage them to go to the polls, Lohse explains. The Bush trend was revealed later on.

(snip)

“That doesn’t make it illegitimate, it just wasn’t part of the original project.”

For his part, Lohse is a self-described “Reagan revolution fanatic” but said that W. is just “beyond the pale.”

4. I noticed this with two friends who were later diagnosed with Alzheimer's
They became very right-wing, starting not only listening to Rush Limbaugh but parroting everything authoritative. They cam to absolutely support *, without reservation and regardless of any logic.

Since both these people had been moderates, even liberal on some issues, and very well balanced in their research and analysis of issues, I found it puzzling. After the diagnosis I still puzzled about it. I finally came up with the hypothesis that as their mental confusion increased, they looked for simple, black & white ways of deciding on things. This right-wing, simple answer, absolutely authoritative mind-set fit their needs.

This is not a scientific study, but I'll not be surprised if more studies bear this out.

After all, ambiguity is difficult even when one is on top of things. It would not only be confusing but would actually be threatening to someone who's have cognitive trouble.

5. That's a very interesting way of looking at it.
I happen to agree but I'm no doctor.

12. Saving it on my computer in case my brother slips again
and forwards more crap. Was sure the scolding I gave him the last time would induce silence from him for the rest of our lives. But, some of what I said may have sunk in. He is communicating in a friendly manner again.

Told him if he EVER sends ditto-head crap again I would bury him in truth about bush and the idiots who follow him. This info will head the list ;)

9. which also explains
why the fundamentalists support him. Their version of religion is a very authoritarian type of life. "God" tells the preacher, the preacher tells the "head of the house", and the hubby dictates to the little woman and brood.

Unquestioning obedience. No original thought. Anything else indicates you don't have faith in "God".
