For those interested in what's actually happening in Iraq.
I've been following Iraqi blogs for some weeks. The opinions expressed on them vary. Some are from Iraqis who have fled Iraq, others from those still in Iraq. Some are Sunni, some Shi'a. Some young, some old. Some men, some women.

I have found it most interesting to go back through the archives of the blogs for an "on the ground" history of the American attempt at neo-colonialism.

So, for those of you interested in seeing what real, individual, Iraqis think, live through, and feel, instead of the generic "The Iraqis" portrayed by the media:

Here's some more if you're interested.

2. You have no idea what "they" think do you??
Mostly, I care what our kids "think" - as you say.

I feel badly for the Iraqi's - I really do - but I really care for those dumb dogfaces we stuck over there.

Following it for weeks, huh. Must be tough on you.

6. Oh - because I believe he has no clue.
That I know, if your "clues" are based on just what you see on the internet, then you don't really know. On and on.

I think it probably was an "outburst", as you say.

On the other hand - too many people have put too many words in the "Iraqis" mouths right now.

I am sick of it.

You don't really know what they think. Maybe I don't either - but my opinion is based on years of this crap - and my opinion is that they just want to know they can go to the market without being blown up - radical, isn't it??

12. The OP provided links
to blogs by Iraqis so we DUers could read first-hand reports from them directly. I think it's great! How you or anyone could have a problem with this is a mystery to me.

15. Julie,
Because I know if you even have power over there you are an elite - power AND a computer- super elite. Its just the way it is. To take on face value comments made by such a select segment of a populace is at best meaningless.

The things that are really important are occurring within the "middle class" (such as it is) of the country. They don't have computers - or anything else we take for granted.

I guess - it would be like making a judgement about the concerns of our country by just looking at a narrow and very select band of the population -

This is why we are SUPPOSED to have real reporters.

I didn't mean any disrespect to the poster at all.

16. Thank you for your reasoned reply
I better understand your point of view now. I still think we can learn more from such sources than from Pravda, er, I mean the media.

I agree with you that we should be able to rely on an open and honest media for facts about the real conditions in Iraq. It is outrageous that we cannot.

Peace,
Julie

18. What makes you think the average "Iraqi" knows how a
computer works at all?

Tell me, how did they learn without 1) having a computer and 2) having power to operate it.

Internet cafe?? - they can't go to market to get dinner.

8. How long have you been following what the Iraqis think?
I didn't stick the dogfaces over there to kill Iraqis. And, the Iraqis didn't ask for them.

Do the Iraqis count for less than the soldiers sent to kill them?

19. Since the day the 3rd relieved the 101st in Mosul.
It was the day my kid got ambushed the first time.

I guess I am an inquisitve person.

I wanted to know just who they were - these people that would kill my kid.

They are not all bad - the Iraqis - please understand - I really do feel for them.

But I do feel a lot more for the american kids - a lot more.

21. Um, they live there.
The "American kids" are committing the political equivalent of a home invasion. Sometimes burglars get ambushed by irate homeowners.

Does that clear things up?

27. It does for them.
Look, I have no good opinion of officers trying to get promoted - in fact they make me sick.

And I do think some of the officers of this country should go straight to hell for their participation in this mess.

But those "dogfaces" - they did exactly what they were supposed to do, even though many had severe questions about it. I always thought, it is pretty easy to do the "right thing" when you see just what the right thing is. Really difficult when you don't see it.

Buddy, they didn't see it - and they tried so hard anyway. They will pay a very steep price at the end of the day for this war.

Having been a GI myself, and having lost friends and family to war, you, and your son have my sympathy.

However, I still believe that an Iraqi life, or any life, is just as important and worthwhile as any other.

30. All life is important.
I live my life beliving that - please don't misunderstand me.

Troy - I think this was one deployment too many. I don't think he walks away from this one.

I never did.

We have long talks now. I think - he doesn't care anymore about getting shot up. What did he say - that if he did get shot up, he either comes home in a body bag or a hospital ship - either way - he comes home.

You know, people break - everybody has a breaking point - everybody. Those are not toy soldiers we sent over there.

I really do like those kids - all of them.

34. hugs to you joe
you are so right on as far as how long the "kids" can be pushed over there. at a certain point the body has to shut down of the fear of living or dying. i am so sorry you sit in this fear for your child you love so.

we also have unlimited love. truly we can have equal concern for all the innocents dying over there along with all our soldiers. to listen to the iraqis and the soldiers and the parents..... would only lose the supprt for bush, whatever is left. i started reading the iraq blogs before the war started. it hasnt hurt me at all to listen to people all these years, thru their experience

your son, and so many others sons stuck over there breaks my heart. i pray and think about those soldiers often. thank you for sharing on these posts.

5. Thank you for this.
I have only read through the first three... I intend to read more. I REALLY wish we had Iraqi folks living in Iraq as members of the DU. It would be VERY informative to get a regular account of their thoughts untainted by any spin. In my imagination I can see a VERY POPULAR DU-Iraq forum consisting of many Iraqi citizens, refugees, coalition soldiers and etc. sharing their thoughts and experiences with us.
I believe this would do much more than just put a face on the faceless..... :patriot:

11. This Govt and the American people for the most part
don't care about Iraqis or what they think. Sure, it is awful that so many of them have died, &/or been wounded and this will keep happening for a long time but the bottom line for most is realy about the US Troops and the $Billions being spent on this War On Iraq.
