"Tommy Franks and the coalition forces have demonstrated the old axiom
that boldness on the battlefield produces swift and relatively
bloodless victory. The three-week swing through Iraq has utterly
shattered skeptics' complaints." (Fox News Channel's Tony Snow,
4/27/03)

"The only people who think this wasn't a victory are Upper Westside
liberals, and a few people here in Washington." (Charles Krauthammer,
Inside Washington, WUSA-TV, 4/19/03)

"I will bet you the best dinner in the gaslight district of San Diego
that military action will not last more than a week. Are you willing to
take that wager?" (Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly, 1/29/03)

"What's he going to talk about a year from now, the fact that the war
went too well and it's over? I mean, don't these things sort of lose
their--Isn't there a fresh date on some of these debate points?"
(MSNBC's Chris Matthews, speaking about Howard Dean--4/9/03)

"It is amazing how thorough the victory in Iraq really was in the
broadest context..... And the silence, I think, is that it's clear that
nobody can do anything about it. There isn't anybody who can stop him.
The Democrats can't oppose--cannot oppose him politically."
(Washington Post reporter Jeff Birnbaum-- Fox News Channel, 5/2/03)

"Now that the war in Iraq is all but over, should the people in
Hollywood who opposed the president admit they were wrong?"
(Fox News Channel's Alan Colmes, 4/25/03)

"I'm waiting to hear the words 'I was wrong' from some of the world's
most elite journalists, politicians and Hollywood types.... I just
wonder, who's going to be the first elitist to show the character to
say: 'Hey, America, guess what? I was wrong'? Maybe the White House
will get an apology, first, from the New York Times' Maureen Dowd. Now,
Ms. Dowd mocked the morality of this war....

"Do you all remember Scott Ritter, you know, the former chief U.N.
weapons inspector who played chief stooge for Saddam Hussein? Well, Mr.
Ritter actually told a French radio network that -- quote, "The United
States is going to leave Baghdad with its tail between its legs,
defeated." Sorry, Scott. I think you've been chasing the wrong tail,
again.

"Over the next couple of weeks when we find the chemical weapons this
guy was amassing, the fact that this war was attacked by the left and
so the right was so vindicated, I think, really means that the left is
going to have to hang its head for three or four more years."
(Fox News Channel's Dick Morris, 4/9/03)

"This has been a tough war for commentators on the American left. To
hope for defeat meant cheering for Saddam Hussein. To hope for victory
meant cheering for President Bush. The toppling of Mr. Hussein, or at
least a statue of him, has made their arguments even harder to defend.
Liberal writers for ideologically driven magazines like The Nation and
for less overtly political ones like The New Yorker did not predict a
defeat, but the terrible consequences many warned of have not happened.
Now liberal commentators must address the victory at hand and confront
an ascendant conservative juggernaut that asserts United States might
can set the world right."
(New York Times reporter David Carr, 4/16/03)

"Well, the hot story of the week is victory.... The Tommy Franks-Don
Rumsfeld battle plan, war plan, worked brilliantly, a three-week war
with mercifully few American deaths or Iraqi civilian deaths.... There
is a lot of work yet to do, but all the naysayers have been humiliated
so far.... The final word on this is, hooray."
(Fox News Channel's Morton Kondracke, 4/12/03)

"Shouldn't the prime minister and all of us who thought the
war was hasty and dangerous and wrongheaded admit that we were wrong? I
mean, with the pictures of those Iraqis dancing in the streets, hauling
down statues of Saddam Hussein and gushing their thanks to the
Americans, isn't it clear that President Bush and Britain's Tony Blair
were right all along? If we believe it's a good thing that Hussein's
regime has been dismantled, aren't we hypocritical not to acknowledge
Bush's superior judgment?... Why can't those of us who thought the war
was a bad idea (or, at any rate, a premature one) let it go now and
just join in celebrating the victory wrought by our magnificent
military forces?"
(Washington Post's William Raspberry, 4/14/03)

"This will be no war -- there will be a fairly brief and ruthless
military intervention.... The president will give an order. attack] will be rapid, accurate and dazzling.... It will be greeted by
the majority of the Iraqi people as an emancipation. And I say, bring
it on."
(Christopher Hitchens, in a 1/28/03 debate-- cited in the Observer,
3/30/03)

"Speaking to the U.N. Security Council last week, Secretary of State
Colin Powell made so strong a case that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein
is in material breach of U.N. resolutions that only the duped, the dumb
and the desperate could ignore it."
(Cal Thomas, syndicated column, 2/12/03)

Until the philosophy,
Which holds one race superior
And another inferior,
Is finally and permanently
Discredited and abandoned,
Everywhere is war.

WAR

Until there is no longer first class
Or second class citizens of any nation.
Until the color of a man's skin,
Is of no more significance than
The color of his eyes,
I've got to say "war".

WAR

That until the basic human rights,
Are equally guaranteed to all,
Without regard to race,
I'll say "war"

Until that day the dream of lasting peace,
World-citizenship and the rule of
International morality will remain
Just a fleeting illusion to be pursued,
But never obtained.
And everywhere is war.

Until the ignoble and unhappy regime
Which holds all of us through,
Child-abuse, yeah, child-abuse yeah,
Sub-human bondage has been toppled,
Utterly destroyed,
Everywhere is war.

War in the east,
War in the west,
War up north,
War down south,
There is war,
And the rumors of war.

Until that day,
the african continent will know no peace
There is no continent,
Which will know peace.

Children, children.

Fight!

We find it necessary.
We know we will win.
We have confidence in the victory
Of good over evil
Of good over evil

Fight the real enemy!

Bob Marley

2. K & R
I hear some distant drumbeat
A heartbeat pulsing low
Is it coming from within
A heartbeat I don't know
A troubled soul knows no peace
A dark and poisoned pool
Of liberty now lost
A pawn an oppressor's tool.

Oh my heart be strong
And guide when eyes grow dim
When ears grow deaf with empty words
When I know there's life within.

A gunfire shatters silence
Where birds once sweetly sang
A mother cradles a child now dead
Now death where life began

From the troubled heart of South Africa
Nicaragua's festering sore
The turmoil on the streets of China
Death crying out for more

A change is slow in coming
My eyes can scarcely see
The rays of hope come streaming
Through the smoke of apathy

But oh my heart be strong
And guide when eyes grow dim
When ears grow deaf with empty words
When I know there's life within.

May the spirit never die
Though a troubled heart feels pain
When the long winter is over
It will blossom once again.

6. Why does Dick Morris have the right to ask?
He was one of the first ones on t.v. explaining why we had to go after the 9/11 terrorists by attacking Iraq, Syria and Libya. Or was it Iran, Syria and Libya? Anyways, shouldn't he apologize first?

the "lefties" should admit they were wrong. Some of them are amazing.
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2842

I caught the movie Biloxi Blues the other night. In the movie the army recruits went to the movies, before the movie they were shown newsreels. The newsreels showed flag draped coffins coming back from Europe, it struck me how that back then they actually showed those coffins and honored those who died, where now with the chimp in charge they hide the coffins like they are ashamed of them. Embarassing.

19. What, the chickenhawks admit they were wrong?
That'd never happen. My uncle is still insisting that Iraq was a noble venture, just 'done for the wrong reasons, and done poorly.'
But he refuses to admit that invading Iraq in the first place was a bad idea.
Of course, he also said that 'the people in Lebanon deserved what's coming to them.' (in reference to being bombed by Israel)
So you can see what sort of views he has.

22. Don't forget this classic from J. Goldberg
Anyway, I do think my judgment is superior to his when it comes to the big picture. So, I have an idea: Since he doesn’t want to debate anything except his own brilliance, let’s make a bet. I predict that Iraq won’t have a civil war, that it will have a viable constitution, and that a majority of Iraqis and Americans will, in two years time, agree that the war was worth it. I’ll bet $1,000 (which I can hardly spare right now). This way neither of us can hide behind clever word play or CV reading.

34. What a horrible post
Thank you. It scrolls through like a horrible, horrible documentary. Every dead soldier was following orders given by a moral lunatic and endorsed by a wilfully gullible Congress. Most of those dead troops probably believed they were in Iraq avenging 9/11.

George Mason once said that, since nations cannot be punished in the next life, they must be punished in this one. Every day I pray George Mason was wrong, because if there is ever a reckoning for this country for what we've done to Iraq in voluntary ignorance, we will pay dearly--worse than we can imagine and far far worse than we have.

I recommend that many of us print this post and mail it to cable and network news stations in our districts. An out pouring of hard copy just might force more attention to these important points and at least get the pundits to shut up because of their lack of credibility over this war.

43. How Wrong
What strikes me is how wrong these people were. It is not just that they were wrong, but that they could be so wrong. Declaring victory when soldiers were still dying and still being attacked 90 or more times a day. In addition, it seems to me that on the list you just showed many of the people who were most off were those who never fought in a war. Finally, yes all those people listed and Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld need to say they were wrong for the war and the way they treated the soldiers who they sent to war.

47. A correction about William Raspberry's column should ne noted
I've enjoyed a lot of Raspberry's columns over the years.

Apparently the quote from him needed to be read in full context.

FAIR has run a correction

From the link walldude provided:
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2842

CORRECTION

This advisory mistakenly included an out-of-context quote from William Raspberry’s April 14, 2003 Washington Post column. FAIR's advisory inaccurately presented Raspberry’s column as an example of overly optimistic pundit commentary about the invasion of Iraq. Contrary to FAIR’s presentation, Raspberry’s column called attention to and rejected the same sort of premature triumphalism and marginalization of critics that was the subject of FAIR's media advisory. FAIR should have presented the Raspberry column as an exceptional example of a media figure challenging the conventional wisdom early in the Iraq War.

FAIR sincerely regrets the error and offers an apology to William Raspberry and to our readers.

56. This didn't need to be repeated.
I grow weary of the various DUers who seem to wallow in the deaths of nameless soldiers and use those tragedies to further a political cause.

If you really cared even a little about those soldiers, you would not be putting together this sort of morbid peep show, you'd be constructing a memoriam to the fallen and the grieving loved ones left behind.

57. And you have started a memorial?
Edited on Sat Dec-09-06 09:52 AM by seemslikeadream
That's extremely thoughtful and caring of you. Please post a picture I'd be very interested in seeing it. I'm sure it will help with your weariness. Please do not guestion my motives.

on edit: going over your posts I see you like telling people what to do and how to think , so I will not take offence since you do this quite often.

59. Pay no attention to the whiny hypocrisy of the warmonger-defenders
I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that someone actually said "this didn't need to be posted". Is he/she KIDDING? Your post ROCKS!!! Those bastards who made those statements you quoted need to be reminded of them EVERY DAY for the rest of their lives!:yourock:

Recommended for greatest page.

58. BULL-F**KING SH*T!!!!!!!
I "grow weary" of the various rightwinger commentators (such as those whose comments are highlighted in the original post) who seem to be absolutely INDIFFERENT to the fact that they are PROMOTING the deaths and lifetime maiming of those "nameless" soldiers whom you claim to care about!

If YOU really cared even a little about the soldiers who are STILL ALIVE AND THEREFORE MIGHT BE SAVED, you would not be making petulant, whining, hypocritical posts accusing this poster of "creating a morbid peep show".

There is no more "morbid peep show" than the glimpses we occasionally get of our dead soldiers' flag-draped coffins being sneaked into the country at Dover at night, with the Bush maladministration having forbidden us to see them or even acknowledge them--for fear that someone might actually get righteously angry at the NEEDLESS carnage this maladministration has caused.

The words of the bloodthirsty warmongers need to be played and replayed, displayed and re-displayed, forever, so that everyone can know WHO it was that caused or enabled the NEEDLESS deaths of 3000 young Americans and of countless Iraqis of all ages. If I weren't against maiming people, I'd say that the words of the warmongers should be branded on their foreheads so everyone can see how wrong they were and are.

The warmongers who made the statements quoted should be content that citizens aren't all traveling to DC in an angry mob, going to tear them limb-from-limb out of frustration over their asinine statements. Instead, the original poster, and others, have chosen to simply answer them with their own disgusting words--and I second them in that choice. If people want to keep it that way--to keep dissent from the warmongers at a manageable level where no commentator, however asinine, gets physically confronted--then in my opinion anyone with a soft spot for the warmongers (hopeless case Newt Gingrich excepted) should not complain about the FREE SPEECH which this original poster is properly exercising.

And DON'T accuse me of "not really caring about those soldiers".

Mad? Good! "Bring it on!"

I've shared this with several chickenhawks in my circle, although that group has grown considerably smaller over the past year.

65. Now we'll give no more brave young lives Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ba_xY8vt_o&mode=related&search=

If you love this land of the free
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
Bring them back from overseas
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

It will make the politicians sad, I know
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
They wanna tangle with their foe
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

They wanna test their grand theories
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
With the blood of you and me
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

Now we'll give no more brave young lives
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
For the gleam in someone's eyes
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

(Hooo-hooo hooo-hooo)
(Hooo-hooo hooo-hooo)

The men will cheer and the boys will shout
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
Yeah and we will all turn out
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

The church bells will ring with joy
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
To welcome our darlin' girls and boys
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

We willl lift their voice and sound
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
Yeah, when Johnny comes marching home
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
……..
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
Bring them back from overseas
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

If you love this land of the free
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
Bring them back from overseas
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
