The "Long War"?
First Long War Marine to receive Medal of Honor

No offense intended to Cpl. Dunham. I hold him in the highest regard.

It's the "Long War" part of the headline that I object to.

If we are not fighting for control of the oil and a military presence in the Middle East then why are we fighting what they are now calling the "Long War"?

As I recall, we were attacked by terrorists, not Iraq.

And we never even caught Osama, neither dead nor alive.

1. Just because the Monkey calls it that does not make it so. It is the DUMB War.
He's trying to give it a dramatic and historical-sounding name. Far better to call it the Dumb War, or the First Fatally Flawed Fuckup of the 21st Century.

2. I think Bush sees himself on a white horse
If as I think it is today, Bush wants the Middle East to move to wards the USA and a govt. of free voters it is a good course. That we can push them into it looks crazy. These countries move to wards self rule in their own time and way. The Middle East Culture seem to look at us as sinful. Turning a country up side down hardly can sit will with them and one wonders why Bush can not see this? Could the Iraq people come here and take out Congress and put in all new laws and think we would all like it? It just a crazy way to think. They worked with-in Japans culture to change it not rules from DC. Odd how they think in DC. The rules come from the top and it hardly works. I guess Bush was playing at the frat house the days they went into all that. Kings are sort of out of date.

3. Here you go....
try this on for size and then 'google' the phrase. Apparently not as catchy as they had hoped.

http://www.tompaine.com/articles/2006/02/08/the_neocons_long_war.php

"The Pentagon’s latest Quadrennial Defense Review, the fancy name for the Defense Department’s “big think” strategy that is supposed to come out every four years, has to be seen as the Bush administration’s ultimate Plan for Empire. It lays out a Thirty Years' War-type battle plan for an expanding U.S. military presence worldwide, to fight a war against an enemy which is, at most, a few hundred strong.

Officially, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld calls it “The Long War,” a propaganda term designed to echo “the Cold War,” and the Pentagon intends to brainwash Americans into supporting a generation-long struggle that will lay the groundwork for an American hegemony in the 21st century. It is, indeed, the Project for a New American Century."
