Impeachment What if... moderate (sane) Repubs convened a meeting w/the Decider
Edited on Fri Dec-08-06 04:47 PM by npincus
-- a very private meeting--to tell him that they will support impeachment hearings if he does NOT bring this war to an end. I think THAT is the only way NUT-boy is going to bring our guys/gals home.

I think this might work. We know enough Dems are chomping at the bit to impeach, and bipartisan support to impeach would make it a whole new ballgame.

Thoughts?

1. How do we get them to do that?
I'm all for it but how do we "privately" find out who would do it?

2. McCain want's to run in '08 - he knows there's no way in hell at this point
let him put together a coalition of the willing from among his fellow Repugs, then he can take credit for it.

3. "we" don't, the only way that would ever happen would come from inside
the republic party.

4. my point exactly
I think its a great idea but there's nothing we can do to make it happen and I don't think McCain will do it either. He's too connected to this administration. By the time he would get to that point it would be too late. Its already too late . . . (not that we shouldn't do it . . . just that it should've already happened).

8. unfortunately, I don't think Dems can make this happen
Assuming their are Repugs out there with a hint of conscience, have had enough, or even if it is politcal calculation, perhaps they can organize and put it together.

Tom Friedman said on Imus yesterday we will not get out of Iraq under this prez unles moderate Repugs force him. He didn't elaborate HOW this could happen, and I wasn't sure what he meant. BUT, the impeachment ultimatum seems to make sense. Perhaps they'd be just calling his bluff, but if Chimpy believed history would record his war led to impeachment, I think he would do anything to prevent that.

5. What if Bush were struck by lightning?

*If* enough Republicans were willing to support it, impeachment would be a possible option, but there isn't any chance at all of enough of them breaking ranks for that to happen.

6. What if Bush were struck by a stroke? Ok. That's mean.
If there weren't 400,000 dead Iraqis I might feel guilty...

7. IMHO
In a reasonably short time everyone involved will realize Shit for brains is looking for ways to stay the course and not exit strategy. In say 3-4 months the mood should be right to start the hard work of putting things right. This means sweeping out the old and replacing the obstructors, I believe the Republicans who survived the November massacre of their party will realize it's time to DROP THE STONE. Every man for himself. Who can they get to help them in 08? Frist NO DeLay NO Hasstert NO Shrub NO KKKarl NO all of thier Hero's are gone or under indictment. The best they can hope for is distancing themselves from Bunnypants. When the Dems take over the Republic need to avoid be seen as obstructionists.. With the huge number of investigations still underway and probably a few new ones coming, the party is over and the bill will be coming due. IMHO I don't expect Commander Head in the Sand to make it passed 7/07/07. But I could be wrong. Let's hope not.
