I just got home from a jazz concert. C-SPAN-2 has the Senate still in session. What in the Sam Hell is going on?

2. It says: "Quorum Call"
Edited on Sat Dec-09-06 04:10 AM by longship
What's the sargeant-at-arms doing? Waking people out of dead sleep?

"Senator Akaka, you're needed on the floor. You need to fly back from Hawaii for a vote."

"Senator Allard..."

"Senator Allen..."

Etc.

3. C-SPAN-2: Coming up in the Senate
Edited on Sat Dec-09-06 04:19 AM by longship
* Miscellaneous bills.
* Wrap-up of 109th Congress

Or, so it says.

Plus, some pretty good music. Romantic era symphony... Can't place it. Could be Schubert.

They're keeping Bill Frist up past his normal tippling time.

4. Just waiting for the staff at the dais to put their heads down...
...and wondering if the snoring will drown out the Schubert symphony.

8. When they hold sessions late at night, they're trying to pass bullshit legislation
Y'know, the kind of legislation that assaults working class interests or chips away at civil liberties.

9. Frist is doing a good act as an auctioneer...
he has the pater down and his is speaking fast.

A whole bunch of house and senate resolutions are being "layed on the table" (whatever that means).

What is happening here?

10. Wrapping up business.
All by unanimous consent. Most of the bills are those from the House.

I'm waiting for a Dem to "object".

The 109th Congress dies with a whimper.

16. Ramming a corrupt, unspeakably corrupt tax bill
through, with lots of corrupt, unspeakably corrupt Democratic Senators joining in. This is a fucking outrage. We, the people of this nation, are being treated with complete contempt.
