A person wrote this, and I wanted to respond by saying X% of convictions are reversed, so we'd often end up with innocent people that are blind...

Ghandi Disagreement

An eye for an eye doesn’t make the whole world blind as quoted so eloquently by Ghandi. An eye for an eye helps to make fools, the irresponsible, and the dishonest easier to recognize. Think about that.

1. Google "The Innocence Project"

That doesn't include cases that were already overturned on appeal because of flagrant police or prosecutor misconduct. They have more statistics on the how's and why's of false convictions and suggest solutions.

Another thing you can mention is that it is rarely an eye for an eye. For example, is cutting off the hand of a petty thief an eye for an eye?

EDIT off

Go the Second Mile
38 "You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' 39But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. 41And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. 42Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.

4. Or as Nietzsche put it...
And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.
