Crowds protesting Sheehan arrest in DC -- police getting ugly.
From http://www.bradblog.com/ :

David Swanson reports by phone on the scene: During the protest in front of the Capitol Police HQ, 2-3 dozen police locked arms and pushed the crowd across the street. A protester named James from World Can't Wait was arrested for chanting "Free Cindy Now" with a megaphone. As the police grabbed the megaphone, they hit a woman protester in the head, but she is ok. They also kicked Aliska from World Can't Wait in the head, and she required treatment in an ambulance before she was released. Cindy is now being taken to the Central Processing Center in Judiciary Square, and the crowd is following her.

7. Unlike the 60's, the media is ignoring protests.
They are all so afraid of Karl Rove that they dare not show what's happening in the streets.

The huge demonstration in New York before the RNC last year was barely seen in the media, unless you watched C-Span.

But think about this ... if a crowd had gathered outside the Capitol to protest a Clinton SOTU, that's all we would have heard about.

6. On that same blog... Cindy released, roughed up.
12:22a ET - SHEEHAN FINALLY RELEASED! SAYS SHE WAS "ROUGHED UP"...According to Fertik who is in touch with David Swanson...

David reports Cindy has just been released. She was filmed by 3 networks and answered a few quick questions and mentioned she was "roughed up" - David said she looked tired and frustrated. She went off to sleep and will appear on the Today show in the morning.

9. Hit this poll from MSNBC needs DUing BAD
Do you agree with the decision by Capitol Police to remove activist Cindy Sheehan from the gallery at the president's State of the Union speech because she was wearing a T-shirt with an antiwar slogan?

26. What's that stupid pre 9=11 document say? Something about
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 01:39 PM by donkeyotay
"Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

So, officially now, anyone not kissing GOP butt is a threat to national security. If the woman who gave her son in an unjust war wants government held accountable, she should buy a lobbyist to bribe the Republicans into holding an investigation into who and how our country was hijacked.

She wore a very quiet and truthful comment that should be fully protected as political speech, but our corrupt congress can't handle the truth.

They've given Cindy far more time and attention before the cameras for this unwarranted arrest. She did nothing wrong. No one would've even known about her shirt if they hadn't arrested her. A truly stupid move, that. Cindy will be all over the airwaves and in print, telling the world what they've done - and, more importantly, why the message on her shirt is so important. I imagine we'll be seeing an awful lot of that shirt in the days and weeks to come.

25. This morning, no mention of the arrest by corpoate media
She did NOT have a banner, she wore a shirt. She was NOT speaking, she was taking her coat off when arrested.

But this morning all is silent on the MSM front.

21. ***PERMALINK for the BradBlog story on the arrest - it's being updated
continuously and seems to me to be the best place for information on this outrage:

BradBlog has the full, updated coverage: blogged by Brad starting 1/31/2006 @ 5:52pm PT and ongoing:
BREAKING: CINDY SHEEHAN ARRESTED BY CAPITOL POLICE INSIDE CAPITOL CHAMBER FOR WEARING IRAQ KIA T-SHIRT!
Was to Attend State of the Union Address! Was Already Seated in Gallery When Arrested by Capitol Police!

22. Time to repost OLIPHANT'S GREAT CINDY AT GEORGE'S GATE CARTOON:
The all-time BEST cartoon on Cindy Sheehan's relationship to the WH, in my opinion. They "ran her off" from Bush's SOTU, but I believe and hope this outrage will backfire.

What the hell is this once great land coming to? They arrest a woman for wearing a fucking tshirt, and now they arrest a guy simply for chanting through a megaphone? Goddamit! That really stinks.
