anyone else get the debunked FCC petition #2493 AGAIN!
This has been going around for what - about 10 years. Debunked long ago (www.snopes.com/politics/religion/fcc.asp), even James Dobson has a disclaimer on his website. God forbid any of these people actually look into what they're signing. Just got it today and sent the snopes link to everyone on the email list!

Dear Friend or Family:

Please, if you don't wish to participate, return this to the person who sent it to you so they can at least keep this going or forward it to someone you think will wish to participate. Dr. Dobson is going on CNBC to urge every Christian to get involved. I hope you will think about signing this and forwarding to all your family and friends. Dr. James Dobson, with Focus on the Family, pleads for our action. An organization has been granted a Federal Hearing on the same subject by the Federal Communications Commission FCC) in Washington, DC. Their petition, Number 2493, would ultimately pave the way to stop the reading of the gospel of our Lord and Savior, on the airwaves of America. They got 287,000 signatures to back their stand! If this attempt is successful, all Sunday worship services being broadcast on the radio or by television will be stopped! This group is also campaigning to remove all Christmas programs and Christmas carols from public schools! You as a Christian can help! We are praying for at least 1 million signatures. This would defeat their effort and show that there are many Christians alive, well and concerned about our country. As Christians, we must unite on this. Please don't take this lightly. We ignored one lady once and lost prayer in our schools and in offices across the nation. Please stand up for your religious freedom and let your voice be heard. Together we can make a difference in our country while creating an opportunity for the lost to know the Lord.

and notice that they never name the "organization!" God help us - THESE PEOPLE ACTUALLY VOTE!

1. Is this the one that deals with 'Touched by an Angel'?
If so, yeah I got that same email a few weeks ago. One of my vendors is a right-winger Christian, and since I have to do business with her, I get all her junk mail.

2. I think one of the versions of it does deal with that....
the one I got didn't mention it, but snopes does.

Whenever I get any request to sign anything on line or anywhere - I check out what I'm signing and have some knowledge of what I'm supporting or not supporting.

These are true SHEEPLE!

3. The first thing I did when I got the email was to Google it
I simply typed in the FCC petition #, and immediately came up with the Snopes site (along with many others) that completely debunked it.

4. you gotta remember that the fundies are boycotting NBC

so it's doubtful any of them will be appearing on CNBC any time soon

The American Family Association is urging its members to flood NBC with letters denouncing the network's new series "The Book of Daniel" which will feature primetime's only openly gay male character in a new show.

The series is planned to debut January 6 at 9:00 pm E/P time.

"The Book of Daniel" stars Aidan Quinn (“An Early Frost”) as the Reverend Daniel Webster (pictured) an unconventional Episcopalian minister who not only believes in Jesus - he actually sees him and discusses life with him.

His children include Peter (Christian Campbell, “Trick”), a 23-year-old gay son, who struggles with the loss of his twin brother. To confound matters even more, Peter is a Republican.

9. Urban legends never die.
There are always ignorant people out there who will hear or read some bit of nonsense, make no effort to determine if there's any truth to it because it fits some bias or other that they have, and then just pass it along to everyone.

It's why urban legends stay around and around and around. It's also why whenever you read or hear something that sounds even the slightest bit phony, check it out. Don't be willing to believe too easily. Healthy skepticism is. . . healthy.
