Another one bites the dust: Rep. Bonilla (R-TX) goes down!!!
Bonilla loses House seat after 7 terms

Former Congressman Ciro Rodriguez defeated seven-term Republican Henry Bonilla in a runoff election Tuesday, adding another Democrat to Congress.

With more than half the precincts reporting in the state's largest district, Rodriguez had 57 percent to Bonilla's 43 percent.

They were the top vote-getters in a special election held Nov. 7, but neither got 50 percent, prompting the runoff.

Bonilla was seeking an eighth term in Washington, while Rodriguez was hoping to return after a two-year absence. He served from 1997-2005 in another district but was ousted in the March 2004 Democratic primary by Henry Cuellar, a Laredo Democrat. Rodriguez lost again to Cuellar in this year's primary.

The Supreme Court ruled in June that a 2003 reconfiguration of Bonilla's district was unconstitutional because it diluted minority votes, and a three-judge panel redrew the district in August to restore Hispanics that had been shunted into another district.

10. Take note mainstream media: He lost to a LIBERAL. Not a centrist
His opponent Ciro Rodriguez,

-Voted NO on authorizing military force in Iraq
-Is pro-choice
-favors gay civil unions
-opposes prayer in public schools
-opposes privatizing social security.
-opposes death penalty
-says Immigration helps our economy encourages it.

11. Correction: he lost to an ACTUAL centrist, not the right-wing excuse for one
Aren't all those positions supported by the mainstream of America?

Was a member of the Progressive Caucus as I'm sure you already knew.

I'm so happy to hear this news. Especially after the previous stolen election.

14. Some idiot is claiming its bad news for Texas...
because we lost a position on the appropriations committee. I simply pointed out that it was going to be in dem control first of all...and no member of the committee for the 110th Congress will be texan anyway. pubes are so easy to argue.

18. Maybe someone from TX can enlighten me?
In his previous campaign, Ciro was supported somewhat reluctantly by the grass-roots/net-roots...I even sent him a check. But, I seem to remember that the reluctance was due to Ciro seeming to vote with the repukes too much of the time, that he was not a Progressive, but more of a Lieberman. Can someone remind me about his voting record and his positions on the war, deficit, big-business?
