Could you imagine the chaos it would have caused if the new Dem leadership had said,
we are impeaching the pResident. In the comfort of time I now understand where they are coming from. The feeding frenzy from that one statement alone would have over shadowed all other news.

1. Imagine, a political party that said they we were going to make sure the President is accountable
to US and international law.
Instead, they promised that he would not be impeached. After all, this must be a nation of comfort for people in high office, and they should not have to worry about things like ... laws.

8. I could understand them not saying "we promise to try and convict Bush and remove him from office"
That would not be wise, if they said we are pronouncing him guilty, and now we are going to have a trial.

However, what was said was... we will too busy to even investigate possible Bush crimes. And we also promise to fund Bush's war.

Status quo, all the way!

13. Ever play poker?
They are not going to show their hand, And by the way, no one has said that investigations won't be conducted. In fact, it's clear that in both the House and the Senate- assuming we are going to control the Senate- they're going to be investigating every corner of the admin. Waxman, Conyers, Leahy, Durbin, etc.

5. They never ever promised he would not be impeached.
They said "Impeachment is currently off the table."

Until, you know, its on the table again.

3. Only if consensual sex were involved
Other high crimes and misdemeanors really shouldn't be the basis for impeachment

6. But you know,
If they were to just say, we're impeaching right away, don't you think that there would be a huge scramble to cover up evidence( on the rethugs), whereas, they might be more free to gather this and that, if it's not an immediate threat.

12. My personal take on the Dems
saying they will not impeach is to not show our winning as being a quest for vengeance.

It stands to reason that the investigations which will be made will turn up so much evidence for impeachment, that the Democratic congress will, (reluctantly, :sarcasm: )proceed with a nationally mandated impeachment.

This way, we get our impeachment and there can be no accusations that we are just getting even for Clinton.
