The "Real" War
----

This is the "real" war. It is waged on the economic front.
This is why diplomacy and getting along with your neighbors and not attacking a country that had nothing to do with 9-11 was, and is, so important.

This is troubling and where is the mainstream media?
How are those hikers doing anyway...?

Iran to replace dollar with euro in foreign deals
Dec 18 4:51 AM US/Eastern

The Iranian government said it has ordered the central bank to transform the state's dollar-denominated assets held abroad into euros and use the European currency for foreign transactions.
"The government has ordered the central bank to replace the dollar with the euro to limit the problems of the executive organs in commercial transactions," government spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham told reporters Monday.
"We will also employ this change for Iranian assets (in dollars) held abroad."

The move comes amid mounting pressure from the United States for the UN Security Council to agree sanctions against Iran over its controversial nuclear programme.

Elham added that Iran's budget would in future be calculated according to euros.
"Until now the budget has been calculated according to revenues in dollars but this calculation will now change."

The end of Dollar supremacy
12/19/2006 5:00:00 PM GMT

The U.S. Dollar dominance is coming to an end
The Iranian government has finally developed a new weapon that can destroy the financial system underpinning the American Empire. The U.S. dollar dominance is coming to an end.

A hundred years ago the U.S. currency’s dominance was refered to as “dollar diplomacy”. After the end of the Second World War, and the fall of the Soviet Union in 1989, that policy evolved into “dollar hegemony.”

But after all these many years of great success, this “diplomacy” or “hegemony” seems to be coming to an end soon.

Iran announced yesterday ordering the central bank to direct foreign transactions and transform the state's dollar-denominated assets held abroad to the single European currency instead of the U.S. currency.

"The government has ordered the central bank to replace the dollar with the Euro to limit the problems of the executive organs in commercial transactions," government spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham told reporters.

5. Iraq was going to do this
They got invaded. Iran is a target and this may be a reason. To any long on DU the switch to the Euro has long been a source of interest here at least since 2001.

7. We'll soon see just how...
enlightened, caring our "American" society is... Or is it how sincere the Christian "values" are when put to the test. "Brother can you spare a dime..." will be the national slogan (but it might be more like "can you spare $100?" since the dollar won't be worth much.

This collapse probably really is coming but it may be less obvious than a massive stock market crash; if it's well managed, it may just come on gradually over the next, say, 10 years. That may even be worse as people will adjust; get used to seeing starving people everywhere and fail to sense the urgency of finding a solution (I'm reminded of that story about putting a frog in boiling water--it jumps out, put it in cool water and gradually heat it to boiling--it just sits there and dies). It would be wise, if one can afford it, to make some sort of preparations for the bad times (just in case)(though I don't know what preparations would be most useful).

3. Well this story is hard to explain to the American people
Why exactly is it a problem that Iran is going to the Euro? It would take a lot of work to explain why this is a bad thing - easier to stick to stories that are easier for the public to understand.
