U.S. soldiers’ suicide rate in Iraq doubled in ’05

WASHINGTON - Suicides among U.S. soldiers in Iraq doubled last year over the previous year to return to a level seen in 2003, U.S. Army medical experts said on Tuesday
Twenty-two U.S. soldiers in Iraq took their own lives in 2005, a rate of 19.9 per 100,000 soldiers. In 2004, the rate was 10.5 per 100,000 and in 2003, the year of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, the figure was 18.8 per 100,000.

The figures cover U.S. Army soldiers only. They do not include members of other U.S. military services in Iraq such as the Marine Corps.

1. But what about the good news coming from Iraq?

Laura Bush told us last week that the press doesn't ever cover all the good things happening in Iraq. I wonder if the wideeyedbeeeatch is aware of this GOOD NEWS??????

2. Actually 2006 is almost over, I wonder if the suicide rate has continued

....going up among our troops there? Any preliminary data on that? Also, what about the suicide rate among returning troops from the Iraq/Afghanistan wars? I feel this will be a major problem among our new veterans both immediately and over the coming years as the Bush administration and general Pentagon policy attitudes have leaned in directions away from fulfilling our obligations to our veterans.
