To see the the "Surge" come to pass?

It's obvious we don't have enough troops, so where will this INCREASE in troops come from?

1. Impeachment is the end of his antics and the only avenue of Withdraw,
Which is the only avenue to Recovery which is what we need.

2. as far as the 110th lets him go
Congress was given the power of the purse for a reason...it's the number one check against the power of the sword given to the executive.

3. Mainly I think he wants Democrats to "stop" him
He's going to be like some guy in a bar who's picking a fight, but rather than put his head down and charge the target of his ire and commence with fisticuffs, he hangs back to make sure his drinkin' buddies grab him and keep him from getting smacked down. He desperately wants to be able to say he was about to win the fight when the Democrats stopped him. Lots of Republicans are feeling the same urge right now. They're looking forward to blaming "libruls" and the "back stabbin' media" for our defeat.

Either that or he's just plain nutters and doesn't understand how far gone Iraq is.
At some point somebody needs to ask him "How many fingers?"

4. my take..."the surge" is a desperate PR appeal to the "Nuke Iraq" crowd
and it's backfiring in his face.
