Need help with Rommel/Goebbels quote
Sorry to come here with just a question and not a real contribution, but I've been searching for an hour for that quote that went around a lot a few years ago from either Rommel or Goebbels, about, "The farmer has little to gain from war except to return to his fields with all of his limbs...you have to convince the people they've been attacked...it's the same in any civilization at any time..." Anyone know what I'm talking about? Anyone got a link? I need it for my blog! Thanks!

1. I don't have a link, but I think the quote to which you are referring is
actually attributable to Hermann Goering.

2. Herman Goering
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

3. Herman Goering. Quote and link......
"Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

Ohhh, thank you! I was starting to wonder why I couldn't find that quote anymore. No wonder, I was looking it up under the wrong names! A thousand thank-yous again!
