8. A Few Selections
A few I recall at the moment (and found on disk):

Need Help Debunking Some FDR Attacks; nickshepDEM, Sept.
Very nice, informative thread; ended up being a lot of educated responses to things, and a good thing to read if you don't know Roosevelt's great accomplishments.

"When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites..."; Lone Pawn, March.
A thread of pictures; sickening arch-con hypocrites making a huge, phony public show of "prayer," blathering away, with signs, etc., where "they have their reward."

Women Ain't Goin' to the Back of the Bus; omega minimo, Oct.
This and other threads like it, that started as feminist declarations of support or defiance, then became something very complicated and multi-layered as "liberal" males jumped on it and attacked women.

Liberation gone wild: Why are women exploiting themselves?; laureloak, Dec.
A very long, highly intelligent discussion on many issues of this type, with great comebacks by the women on the thread.

Also, many other threads, on the unfolding tragedy of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, many people posting investigations and exposes of Bush/Republican crimes, etc. Many great threads from people with increasing money problems and price-gouging bills, etc. It is sometimes comforting to read, and also tells you what the country is really like.

12. A Couple More
What is your most unpopular DU view?; Swede, Dec.
Ended up being a great thread; no attacks, just people telling opinions of theirs that are not generally expressed or popular on DU. Really nice to read; I think, although a very long thread, that it actually had no deletes on it.

Do You Support Animal Rights Issues?; Catchawave, July.
A lot of different subject matter and angles taken on this important thread. Also, there have been great threads on puppy mills (against), on dangerous dogs and what causes it, on rescues of Hurricane Katrina animals, etc.

23. A Few More, and That's About It
CNN's Larry King Live: Lauren Bacall says "I'm a Proud Liberal Democrat!"; AuntiBush, May.
A really fun thread on the great Bacall, that ended up creating other Bacall/old Democratic Hollywood threads, with pictures and stories. This is the way people should act, and fight back.

What are your political "brushes with greatness"?; TwoSparkles, Feb.
A long thread, with many really great, personal stories of meetings or sightings.

It's really all about the women; SoCalDem, July, AND Hey DU! Quit massaging the misogyny RE: missing persons in media; omega minimo, June.
These and other long threads about women and oppression/bigotry, very complex, and worth it. Read these whole threads, and have it all cleared up.

Well, Dr. Dean, You Don't Know Me; Tansy_Gold, April; and also many other great and brave threads on abortion/abortion rights, especially the ones that explain how horrific it was before abortion was legal and safe, and what nightmares await if it becomes illegal again.

Medicare Part D; emdee, Nov., AND Proposal of the Physicians' Working Group for Single-Payer National Health; Cleita, Dec.
Very intelligent threads, both of them--lots of sourced information, and well-reasoned arguments. The first one, anti-, and the second one, pro-.

Also, threads that explain the way things work, such as threads by unlawflcombatant, especially one a while ago on how cutting labor costs actually REDUCES profits--a hugely important situation to understand. Also, recent threads,
To people who hate high taxes, ; HypnoToad, Dec, AND Question regarding the national debt., mexicopat, Dec., etc.--threads where the original poster asked a question,or posited an opinion, and others added on to it, with more debate and information.
It is really important to try to understand how these really basic things work; you can't be so easily lied to. Reminds me of someting I just heard again on a C-SPAN special on the recent Hofstra Clinton Presidency conference. When Dianne Feinstein ran for the Senate 1994, a poll showed that 40% of Californians believed--wrongly--that their taxes had just been raised. They do that by lying over their media, with a total campaign, and censoring the reply.

Many other great threads, such as So, What Do You Write? by Green Party Voter, (Writing forum, now a DU Group), the threads on the wonderful re-finding of the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker, personal stories from posters where other posters just responded as human beings, with advice or memories of things, many great threads on John Lennon recently, etc., etc. No doubt, many others...

Many at the Election Reform Forum post goodies with great regularity. autorank is my personal favorite and brings us TIA'S work.

It just occurred to me that TIA stands for "total information awareness" as well as "TruthIsAll".

As a general year-end observation, Duer's are always making me laugh (intentionally) and I really appreciate that. In fact, I count on it.

Edit: I can't fail to mention Binka's threads in which she shared her son Ben's and family's experience's in the Bush War. Her threads made the reality of the situation we face a personal and powerful one. Binka did it all in a bold and courageous way, maintaining love, vulnerability and humor.

Because books still do hold an interest for me, I love Viva_La_Revolution's reminders about C-Span's Book TV. (and Viva is a sweetie-pie!)

I like how Wetzelbill can pack info, insight and broad humor into one thread.

And LynnTheDem. Now there's a woman prepared with info, multiple sources & who knew how to use CAPS properly! My love to all. :loveya:
