Negroponte to be deputy secretary of state
Negroponte to be deputy secretary of state
Director of U.S. intelligence likely to be replaced by former chief of NSA

Updated: 1 hour, 27 minutes ago

John Negroponte, the director of national intelligence, has accepted the position of deputy secretary of state, NBC News has confirmed. The job has been open for months since the resignation of Robert Zoellick.

The office of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has been seriously understaffed for months.

NBC News investigative producer Robert Windrem also reports that Negroponte's likely successor as head of U.S. intelligence is retired Adm. Mike McConnell, the director of the National Security Agency from 1992 to 1996.

1. so, is being understaffed the excuse for Condi sucking so badly at her job?
Somehow, I don't think the addition of Death Squad Negroponte will help our image overseas.

3. I wonder what death and destruction is on the agenda next.
Negroponte getting another job is like a contract killer getting another "hit".

4. So I heard on the radio.
This guy has got to go. I don't know how, but if there one single outstanding appointment of the Bush White House that should be protested, this is it.

6. He will sail through just like Ms Rice did.
It is a bit strange that he would take this job and quit his.

She is useless. Maybe he can lend some credibility to the State Dept.?

Maybe he can lend some credibility to the State Dept.?:spray:

I don't think Negroponte is the man to bring credibility to the State Dept. I don't think the mad king Boy George knows anyone with Political Cred, Street Cred, or any other kind of Cred. :hi:

7. Negroponte has been too honest about Iran's nuclear program...
he's openly said it will take a decade for them to build a nuke.

I'll bet that's the reason he's going over to State. He and Condi are like Powell, they don't want to invade a country without trying diplomacy first. We'll see this in time.
