Gerald R. Ford World Tour 2007
Edited on Thu Jan-04-07 11:17 AM by ZombyWoof
I see in this morning's paper that his body will be flown to Europe today for a series of more memorials and funerals. I believe Asia is the next continent on the list. He should be back in Michigan in time for next year's Rose Bowl humiliation, based on the latest estimates.

All gallows humor aside (wait, I'll save that for the Saddam threads), the REAL reason there is so much media-induced sainthood and grief thrust upon hapless Jerry Ford is because for most of us over 35 years old, Watergate, Vietnam, rampant inflation, Patty Hearst, and all of the other political and sociological accoutrements of that bygone era seem downright innocent and quaint compared to the shitfest we've endured since 2001. So in some small measure, I almost forgive the week-long orgy of nostalgia and fuzzy warmth expended for the man even LBJ praised as "a nice guy, but he played too much football without his helmet."

So RIP, Mr. Ford. Hope your coffin doesn't stumble on the concourse at Heathrow this afternoon! :patriot:

It's all those important childhood years I spent reading MAD, or college years reading SPY. :P

Hey! The same thing happened to me this morning! I only heard the garage door go UP, and had to check and see if it went down, LOL!

3. question: was Fords funeral the longest in US history? not counting the

times before the invention of the automobile.

it was ENDLESS

and all for the man who pardoned Nixon the criminal.

4. Ford's funeral was "Groundhog Day (the movie)"!
I'll bet it seemed that way to Mrs. Ford!

5. I appreciate Betty Ford
If not for her, Johnny Cash might not have lived long enough to have made all those great late-career albums. She saved lives.

6. I can remember when arguing about politics was interesting
but you could always have a basic faith in the system.

That technicalities would not be used to create an injustice.
