Ultimatum to the Democrats: Do what I say or I will post incoherent rants on the D.U.!
I'm fed up!

The Democrats are nearly sworn in. They're almost, but not quite, in power. And they haven't even altered the very fabric of American society to my liking yet!

Really, what could they be possibly thinking? That Bush has a veto? Don't make me laugh! As soon as over half of the Republican Senators agree (people like John Sununu, Bill Frist, Trent Lott), that guy is going to be impeached, convicted, and outta there! But only if the Democrats have the backbone to do it. And I'm mad as hell that they won't! Because, believe you me, what this country really needs for these next two years is President Richard B. (Dick) Cheney!

That's why I'm totally in favor of Cindy Sheehan's latest stunt, shouting down a Democratic Congressman's press conference about "ethics reform". Ethics reform? Oh please. What kind of silly fluff is that? Why aren't they focusing on what's really important, like the loss of our civil liberties, our free speech rights? Just like Cindy demonstrates, nothing says "free speech" like the absolute right to scream so loudly you keep other people from being heard!

But you know what? I think maybe these traitorous "Democrats" don't agree. (I like putting quotes around "Democrats" like that, because it shows my disgust with the Party. These stupid politicians like free trade, and businesses that try to be good citizens, and America. Not me. I say I come from the "Democratic wing of the Democratic party" - even though I don't actually vote for Democrats because I'm always protesting something.) That's why all Democrats should all be indicted for WAR CRIMES!!!! They had the gall to be part of a government that had Bush in it. How DARE they actually vote against the war? Didn't they understand that voting just encourages him?

So this is my ultimatum. Democrats - do exactly what I want, or I shall continue to write long incoherent anti-Democratic-Party screeds on the D.U. Rants that get modded up by the same handful of people here who think exactly like I do! And if you don't seize power before you're actually sworn in, I shall begin POSTING IN ALL CAPS!!!

QUAIL BEFORE MY POWER!! My ANGER is INFINITE and UNREASONING!!! By this very post, on a website that has been visited by 0.00021% of the American Electorate, you shall know that your ability to stay in office is IN MY HANDS!!!!!! And I will USE that to DRIVE YOU FROM POWER, because really, I'd rather have a Republican in office than a less than perfect Democrat. Just like the way I voted for Ralph Nader (be still my beating heart) over that so-called "Democrat" Al Gore.

That is the heart of the Democratic philosophy. Many people. Many voices. ALL DOING EXACTLY WHAT I SAY!!!!!! RIGHT NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you.

131. Reality bites! Zogby - 60% Democrats favor impeachment if * lied on Iraq
In addition, a plurality of Independents and a majority of Libertarians favor
impeachment under these circumstances. Since majorities of Americans now say he
lied, well, there you have it...

I love stuff like this. Here are facts, which I'm sure you've reviewed already
but for those who have not...

Zogby surprised at high pro impeachment numbers

Now this was in 2005 but Ipsos/AP did a poll in 2006 with higher overall
numbers favoring impeachment.

The wisdom of the American people is abundantly clear. He lied us into
war is believed by a substantial majority.

There needs to be investigative work done promptly and with force, then there will be a 55-60%
demand for impeachment from the general public. Democrats, of course, lead the way.

150. It's not true that the picture of American's feelings about impeachment are clear
There were plenty of polls last year that showed minority support for impeachment.

This year might be different, I hope so, but the numbers just don't look good now.

171. Share any recent polls you've seen.
Results depend on the question.

1) Do you think * should be impeached X%
2) If he lied about Iraq, do you think he should be impeached Y%

Y will always be greater than X now but isn't the job of Congress and others in politics to
lead with ideas and information? Really hard hitting information on Iraq and Katrina, in particular,
could change this dramatically.

Ruling out impeachment is like telling a horrible employee you have no plans to fire him/her.

He should know we're thinking about it seriously and maybe he'll choose to "seek opportunities
elsewhere."

We'll see but for * to be in a position where people only want to impeach him when they know
certain devastating facts is not a good place to be.

I think that Conyers and Waxman are the secret weapons. Those two can really do a number on
* and the neocons in a way that serves us all.

Stay tuned...

176. There are 4 or 5 impeachment polls here:
http://pollingreport.com/bush.htm

> Really hard hitting information on Iraq and Katrina, in particular,
> could change this dramatically.

"Could", yes, but hasn't yet according to the majority of polls available.

That's why the investigations are key. See if we can get the public calling for Bush's head.

Then impeachment and conviction are a cakewalk.

...that's why they have to front load them with the most truth, the real deal on lies lies lies...

W has done some of the biggest crimes in US history - stolen elections, lied us into a war, and all
the rest. MUCH worst than Nixon, MUCH worse, and Nixon was a nasty piece of work (although much
better than W).

So what 'speaks for itself'?

For your information, the 'K' in 'K&R' stands for 'kick' - which is impossible to do anonymously (well, I suppose you could write something outrageous that will get deleted, and so will end up being anonymous, but will have kicked the thread in the mean time, but no-one has in this thread).

134. Tom, the people will lead the politicians this time around.
We don't have pensions guaranteed even if we do time for malfeasance.
We don't have a rancho deluxe health plans for a couple of Franklins a month.
We don't have free postage, travel, and other perks.
For us the reality is more, well, real.
They work for us, whichever party they're in.
Time to crank up the pressure and send the word...do the people's work, in a hurry and
do it right.

One good thing...the ethics bill is a good first step. Next public funding (only) for campaigns.

Then bust the bastards for the stolen elections.

Oh yeah...I think I'll call Jim Moran and have him hit Wendy's for me after his night closes
down (good Irishman that he is;) Now that would be a public service.

33. I enjoyed this bit of satire immensely.
The bit that struck me as most salient concerns the fact that the new Congress had not yet assembled, but had still managed to sell out, cave in and fuck up -- already. These last two and a half months have truly been bizarre here at DU.

On another board, I predicted on election night that it would take no more than 12 hours for the new Congress to disappoint. I fully expect it to disappoint me -- every Congress since 1967 has pissed me off about one thing or another. Some more than others.

Yeah, some more than others. Which is kinda the point of democracy, but that idea pisses some people off more than anything.

No, goddamit! I'm not asking for my way. I'm just asking them to do the right thing.

It's like some people think they can relate to the Democratic Party the way they do with their spouses. I call them the Passive-Aggressive Wing of the Party.

God love 'em. Their passion and energy are a vital part of the mix. Even if they drive me nuts.

from the pompous, self-important rants k&r'd by, as you put it, the same handful of people who think exactly like they do. Although, I have to question whether these groupies can be said to "think" the same, because their replies seldom include any thoughtful response or further analysis or explication, let alone debate. It's more along the lines of OMG, my hero has posted ! ! ! I must prostrate myself and tug my forelock, blogwise, and fatuously praise him or her. Reminds me of that old song that "We belong to a mutual admiration society."
I'd like to point out to everyone that Conservative Democrat has been a member since 2001, and has less than 800 posts. I think this is admirable, because heshe doesn't post just to see his/her name on the screen, or get into flame fests.

Sometimes it seems like we can't dialogue about an issue without irrelevant accusations of Bush coming into it - even if the topic was one completely irrelevant to Bush in every way.

To me, I see the issue as being one of having real dialogue rather than political hacking. There's nothing wrong with political hacking if they want to do so in their threads, but to hijack other threads with accusations of people being "freepers" simply because someone's opinion differs from their own is a bit much. By those standards, 99.5% of America would be a "freeper."

But s/he is sneering at people who take those more seriously than merely as a form self -identification or casual cocktail party chatter "Oh yes, I don't like Mr.Bush and this war is admittedly not entirely desirable".

For some of us these issues are dead serious (you know those of us that might have lost someone in this illegal, unconscionable, immoral war and don't want to sit around and hope that Democrats will do something productive.)
I don't care if they haven't started their first day-they have had time to articulate what they plan to do and they haven't done so yet and I have no problem with hectoring them. They are elected officials not Gods and in this country where every worker constantly has the heat on them, why should they be any different?

I live in fear of my job getting out-sourced or getting downsized. Why should elected officials be treated with kid gloves?

79. His targets are more appropriate
I think satire is funniest when its the little guy making fun of the big guys. I have always thought of satire as the tool of the poweless against the powerful-making fun of some harmless DUers who happen to irk you seems so pointless.

I find it odd that most of the so-called moderates here do this:
1) Claim that the "screeching far left DUers" are completely irrelevant and that no one listens to them -"They are out of sync with the average American" blah blah...

and then

2) Spend all their time deriding the previously mentioned "crazies" and "screechers". The moderates on this site spend more time posting about the "loony left" than about any actual issue.

Surely all you awesome people who "get it" and "know how politics really works" should be spending your valuable time in better ways than by wasting it on the "loony far left that no one cares about"...
Seriously, we are a waste of your precious time, your brilliance and your talents.

Shouldn't you sensible practical people be spending your time better, seeing as you are so efficient and all-knowing? I mean we all know how awesome you are..and if we didn't it wouldn't be due to lack of being told. You are all usually very forthcoming about how perfect you are.

Been lurking here for a while and its hard to miss how much they like to talk about themselves.
The "screechers" start posts about impeachment, Bush, war etc. which are clearly very important as topics at the very least. These guys start posts about how their style of debate etc. etc. is so awesome and how they don't start inappropriate threads like other people blah blah. Talk about navel-gazing...

Do you think if all of us crazies put it in our sigs "Ok we admit it-you are amazinglywonderfullycleverawesomelicious" they will stop going on and on about themselves and how moderate and cool and smart they are?

84. I consider myself pragmatic - never called myself all-knowing or perfect
And I've never called anyone anywhere "crazies" or "screechers" or "loony left".
(Now I myself have been called "loony left" by neocon acquaintances.) Having worked in politics for 16 years now, both as a legislative staffer and a volunteer, I think my comments have some validity. Seeing how the system works from the inside was a real shock - and a number of goings on you literally have to see to believe. No, I am not perfect; Cindy Sheehan(whom I on the whole greatly admire) is not perfect; none of our elected politicians are perfect, and neither are you.

89. I know I am not
And if you do good for you...But there are some here who pride themselves on how superior they are to others and worse still try to shut those people up by calling them "loonies", "conspiracy theorists" etc.

If they want someone to stop "screeching", maybe they could try broaching that little respectfully. I don't know too many people who are not turned off by condescension. Yes I know I am not being concilliatory but I am not trying to be. I have seen how some people here call other people childish and stupid and then say they are just trying to "raise the level of the discourse" because they want the board to be better. What a load! If they really wanted that they would do it more tactfully instead of telling people that what they post is "baloney and rubbish" and "they are not making any sense". They just like telling off people and being snide. The OP is one such.
Seriously, they would be more diplomatic if they really wanted people to be less "reactionary" or whatever.

You catch more flies with honey than vinegar. I mean, its fine if they want to be obnoxious- everyone does that here. Its the pretension that they want to make a difference that is so irritating & dishonest, given how rude they are when they go about "making a difference in the level of discourse and dialogue".

102. I absolutely agree, respect and diplomacy are the way to go.
We have seen George Bush offend the entire world with his arrogant lack of diplomacy.
Whether you catch more flies with honey than vinegar is exactly the major point of contention right now re: whether Mrs. Sheehan's actions at the press conference were appropriate/effective or not.
She got a lot of publicity through her actions. Time will tell whether on balance she strengthened her leverage with the new Democratic majority, or weakened it. I see both pros and cons to her decision to take that action. I don't feel the necessity to scream with absolute certainty for or against her.

The same thing for the speed with which the new Dem. majority acts on different issues. I think we have more influence on them by communicating in a serious, detailed manner(honey) than quickly and publicly condemning them(vinegar).

to call attention to something without telling people off or labeling what they say as "baloney and rubbish". I'm sorry you do not see the humor in the premature criticism of a Congress that just took office a day ago. The term "jumping the gun" seems appropriate. I saw nothing in the OP that indicated a feeling of superiority, or that rose to a level of rudeness.

74. And some of you don't have a clue as to how legislative politics work.
Congressional party leaders don't lay out their agenda in advance to give the GOP a big, fat headstart to spike their cannons. They don't do everything at once. They play their cards close to the vest and get all their ducks in a row (i.e., votes counted in advance) before going public with proposed legislation, announcing investigative committees, etc.

From your post (turning down the volume of your incessant shouting), it seems you either have been given a private briefing by your new Senator as to every single thing he or she plans to do in office, so that you can confidently condemn him/her at this early stage of the game, or you believe that if your new Senator hasn't made a public announcement on a particular issue that he or she will take no action or position on it in the coming term.

The most significant fact to remember is that politicial leaders negotiate privately within their caucuses and count their votes in private.

104. Thanks. Some consider sharing knowledge/experience verboten
I mean, cripes! I've been politically active since I worked on George McGovern's campaign, and have had to endure a heluva lot of Democratic losses. At age 65, with a whole bunch of degrees and job experience, I've picked up a lot of practical knowledge - particularly from the practise of civil and government law. But try to tell some people here hard facts about legal/political reality, facts that they just don't want to hear, and they start in with the name-calling. I have often pitched in with free legal advice in response to DUers requests. You know the threads headed, "hey, any DU lawyers out there - I need help." Evidently that is OK. But try disagreeing with some non-degreed, self-proclaimed legal experts on the board, and you get, "You think you're soooooo smart, just because you have a law degree." Or, "If you're such a hotshot lawyer, what are you doing wasting your time on a blog?" (I explain I'm retired.) I know it's those kind of responses that drove OldLeftieLawyer away in disgust.
Thank you for listening - rant over.

"There comes a time when the truth can no longer be denied. The truth is that each day this Administration is in power, the worse our nation will be. Nothing is going to get better with this crowd. The Congress has a duty and responsibility to bring this chaos under control.

Why an ultimatum? Because the Congress will not move otherwise. They must feel the heat of the people's disapproval. Just being back in power is not enough. We need to stop this slide into anarchy and lawlessness now. Not in January, 2009. Now!"

101. I don't rant anymore, and you know why?
Because my Son came home from the Iraq War in November... How long he will stay home is anyone's guess, just like how long this war will continue is anyone's guess... The problem I have with that is that I don't want my Son to be another statistic while people are waiting around to guess.

I can understand what drives Cindy to continue her quest to end the war, and her actions are to bring attention to what is happening in this war by any means possible.. I understand this very well.

If anything were to happen to my Son, I think I would take up the cause with Cindy to end this war, I would put my heart, soul and spirit into ending this war.. This women is trying to keep me from feeling what she feels, I certainly appreciate that, and I think others feel the same....

130. Thanks. Zogby - 60% Democrats favor impeachment if * lied about Iraq

Beginning with House ethics and procedures.

The minimum wage increase is not 50 cents.

If you heard Pelosi yesterday, she spoke clearly about Iraq; they're not determined to "stay in Iraq," but they've been in control now less than 24 hours, and Congress is not in control of those decisions. It's largely in Bush's control.

your post is composed of it. First of all, one of the things that makes satire funny, is that it reflects some truth. and the truth is that there are posts on DU that have precisely this tone. Second of all, I make no bones about being amused by this, and just because I don't agree with you, I'm a troll? Ridiculous.

170. "Satire is traditionally the weapon of the powerless against the powerful."
"There are two kinds of humor. One kind that makes us chuckle about our foibles and our shared humanity -- like what Garrison Keillor does. The other kind holds people up to public contempt and ridicule -- that's what I do. Satire is traditionally the weapon of the powerless against the powerful. I only aim at the powerful. When satire is aimed at the powerless, it is not only cruel -- it's vulgar ." -Molly Ivins

I happen to agree with this, which is why, while the OP could be accurate, it doesn't amuse me. I am not "satire/humor-impaired" (at least imo-I could be wrong). I don't think Cindy Sheehan, the lefty net-roots etc. are perfect. But even if/when I disagree with them, I am not going to focus my attention on ridiculing them when there is important work to be done/better targets for my ire.

186. Quick paraphrase, just to be sure everyone gets it.
1. I don't expect much of the Democrats so far and anyone who does is not based in reality.

2. There's not a snowball's chance in hell of impeaching Bush, so forgit it. And anyway, I don't want him impeached because then Cheney would be president.

3. I disagree with Cindy Sheehan's stunt because she took attention away from important stuff like ethics reform. She had no right to use free speech to prevent others being heard.

4. The Democrats are patriots and I love them. I like free trade, responsible businesses and America. I don't think Democrats should be indicted for war crimes like "some people" do.

5. The Democrats don't have to do what I want and they don't have to worry about my complaining about it if they don't. I certainly won't complain on DU. I will never complain whatever they do. I worship them

Anyone who doesn't agree with me is not living in the reality based world. They're nutcases, commies, wackos, stuff like that.
