Somebody had to say it.
There's a lot of anger at Cindy Sheehan for getting in the Democrats' faces about Iraq. But if she didn't say it, who would? The invasion has been a disaster from the start. And there wasn't a lot of resistance to it. I know: the Democrats were in the minority. 9/11 was still fresh in everyone's minds. They were lied to by the president. They didn't have the power to stop it. BUT NOW THEY DO.

There's far more of a opposition to the war now, among the American people and the Democrats in Washington. There are signs of progress, timetables being proposed. And if we're going to be realistic, we have to work with them, not against them.

But as important as it is for the Democrats to do what they're doing, there must also be those who refuse to negotiate. Who shout their rage at every injustice and refuse to budge one single inch. They keep the more pragmatic among us from forgetting what we stand for. They remind the powerful that if they don't deal with us, they'll have to deal with them.

When every day means more deaths, when justice is denied every minute of every hour, patience is no virtue, my friends. Patience is a crime. And I, for one, agree with Cindy. You want to call that unrealistic? Fine, then. It's still a voice that must be heard, a voice as irrational as hope itself.

88. She interupted Rahm Immanuel
He needs to be interupted pretty much any time he opens his mouth. When we have a better majority, he will be one of the people with a bullseye on his forehead. He's useless other than as a Democratic number. I would much rather Cindy get this kind of publicity interupting Rahm than anyone else (well Lieberman would also be a good choice - we should dog him mercilessly).

29. Those who support her do not remember McGovern
and the humiliating defeat when the party appeared to be a one issue party.

Yes, the war is important, but economic issues are what affect voters in how they vote. And until we have a draft, the war looks more like a another bungle of Bush and company.

But, hey, if the ones who want to push Iraq and impeachment to the head of the line, they should not come crying when the White House stays Republican in 2008 and when we lose whatever majority we gained two months ago.

Maybe the millions of democrats that put them in power. After all, we all went to the polls, as is the custom in a democracy, and made our voices heard.

A complete electoral shut out of Repukes, and the taking back of both houses by the Democrats tells me that the message was clear. We didn't need Cindy Sheehan jumping in front of the cameras again to make our voices heard.

When Cindy first started her mission, I was 100% in favor of what she was doing. She put a face to the thousands of grieving families everywhere. For many people, she was the first incarnation of a grieving family.

As time has gone on, however, I'm starting to find some of her actions becoming more media stunt than message. This latest one falls in line with that. I don't know who shes taking advice from these days, but I'd like to see her get back on her original message. I don't think her message was any clearer than the lone mom standing out frnt of the White House asking one simple question: WHY?

As the mother of a son who saw his buddies blown up in Iraq, I say there are a lot of suffering, exhausted soldiers who are glad she is speaking for them.

They are dying TODAY. And they don't give a turd about your freakin' expectations of timing.

THEY WOULD LIKE TO LIVE.

Sorry that's too much to ask - that you might have to suffer a grieving mother's reminders about them, over in that hellhole, dying every day.

I wish I had half her courage and poise.

And I know many of our military are counting on her "lack of manners."

You'd think we'd have gotten over that "be a good girl" shit years ago, but some people always see gender: oops, female! and go into their programming to see what's "appropriate," refusing to hear the MESSAGE if it's not all submissive and pretty and delivered with plenty of cleavage....

But in nature, an enraged mama bear will eat any of these fools alive; she'll ALWAYS win the fight. And she's not worried if her teeth are ladylike enough for them. To her, the chauvinists taste just as good as the feminists.

79. You don't know her very well
This is not about her, it's about no more deaths in Iraq.

39. Sheehan is nonpartisan and consistant. I respect that.
I wish she would have waited a bit to see exactly what the Dems are going to do, but I can't slam her for being consistent and keeping the pressure on.

52. She didn't worry about the GOP.
She only goes after Democrats. Why is that?

78. Like she hasn't? Like she hasn't spent weeks camped out in Crawford
and in front of the White House? What are you talking about?

The Democrats have power now and she wants them to use it. And I agree with her -- they should.

80. What do you call camping outside the GOP president's ranch
and disrupting every vacation he has had there in the past 18 months? Seems like going after the GOP to me.

85. Of all people, madfloridan.....
You should not be spreading information you KNOW to be false. You have been corrected on other threads about Cindy's constant confrontations with the Republicans.

I say "of all people" because you are lightening quick to attack anyone who makes a statement you deem to be misleading about the good Dr Dean and DFA.

You know better.

84. If she had waited a bit, who would have heard her?
By protesting when she did, Fox News even carried a segment on her protest. Think they would have shown her protest if she had done it a month from now? They won't even show a Democratic press conference a month from now.

I thought about this for awhile, I think Cindy needs credit for a smart move. A lot of people heard Her this way. She hurt no one.

God Bless Her! :grouphug:

Remember folks, it wasn't The Democratic Party representatives that first wanted us out of Vietnam. They only reluctantly changed their tune when increasing numbers of people started marching in the streets ... PROTESTING.

The War Profiteers, many of them are invested up to their eyeballs in BOTH parties, think because there's not a draft that us peasants will NOT pay attention.

We need to remind our Elected Representatives that they work for The People NOT the Corporations that are getting FILTHY Rich from WAR. :puke: :grr:

83. It's best we not bitch about it
I think Sheehan is right to say whatever she wants. I agree with her and by letting her speak we're doing better than the rethugs did who called her everything but a woman.

89. Well, they haven't even started yet...
waiting to see what they'll do is better than shouting them down at a press conference, IMO.
